jeeze Bill, I only mentioned it, it's not like I was cryin or anything. I'm pretty sure that butt was not designed to be fired from the bench. I've only made that mistake a couple times. At any rate I've almost got it now, a few more trips to the range and she'll be right where I want her. I should have it worked out by Tuesday then I'm not sure what I'll do........I'll hafta just go shoot for the sake of makin smoke I guess!

Still not getting the groups I want!! I've tried powder charges from 80-110 gr and the best I can squeaze out is 5" @100 yards. I'm going to try some differant powder and see if that won't help. It is next to impossible to buy black powder here so I've been using pyrodex select. I finally got a local shop to order me a pound of Goex so I'll try that when it gets here. The only other thing I can figure is that I just can't shoot! Though I was much more comfortable with the open sights today. I guess I'll just keep playin around till I get something to work.

I got a call from Donnie about how the .58 is doing. I gave him some pointers while I was there as the .58 was hurting him a bit and when we went to shooting his new .32 cal he has I noticed something. Matter of fact a couple somethings. First off Donnie works nights. So a lot of the times he is going out to shoot with tired eyes. He looses focus or it begins to swim for him. So he needs to shoot the iron sights when he is fresh to get his best groups. Second off that .58 was hmm Bitting him when he shoots it. I noticed he was doing what I call punching it or leaning into it right when he pulled the trigger. What this did was to change his point of impact. Telling him what I seen sounds like it made a world of differance in how the gun shot but I'm waiting to let him tell you all how it came out but put it this way. He is one happy boy now. ;D

HAA! Been workin so much and chasin the boy so much I hadn't even seen your post Bill. Not to mention the whole dog trainin thing Ok So here's the deal with my .58, Shooting 90 gr of ffg goex with patched (.018) RB I am shooting one inch groups @ 50 yd. I can keep them under 3" @ 100 if I really concentrate on what I'm doing and follow through correctly. You're absolutely right about the "punching" thing Bill, once I relaxed a bit the gun just put em right in there. I am really amazed @ the accuracy of this rifle, I can't see hunting with anything else for deer here in this part of WI where I hunt 100 yards is a long shot. My .32 is a pedersolli blue ridge cap lock, It shoots really well too. Now that I started patching with .015 patches I dont have to start em with a mallet. Bill was able to print one hole groups with it while I was doin good to keep em in an inch. I am getting better though I'm sending Jim H a pic of my latest 3 shot 25 yard group from the .32 in hopes of him posting it here. My only problem now is fighting a growing addiction to muzzle loaders! I worried about my .58 and was all set to make unnecessary changes to a fine gun. So now I'm thinkin I should get a .40 flinter instead! or maybe a smooth bore! LOL! Drivin the wife crazy!
