My wife went to a friend's house in our neighborhood to play cards and while she was there saw several totally white squirrels. She also said that one of the other card players (who lives about a mile up the road) said that she has white squirrels all over her yard too. I had never heard of white squirrels before, particularly not in numbers. I remember seeing all black squirrels in northern Virginia a few years back and learned that the all black phase seems to be a regional thing. I am wondering if the white squirrels might be the same situation. Anybody else seen a quantity of white (or black) squirrels?

Never seen white squirrels anywhere. Have seen black ones. As I recall, there's areas in Ohio that have black ones in numbers. I have seen the occasional black squirrel mixed in with greys, too.

I figure here in Va. that both the whites and the blacks are actually all grey squirrels that are regionally either an albino or mellanistic phase. At any rate they seem to be highly localized.
