It appears to me that Red, Jack, and I are the only ones still active on the board. What has happened and where is everyone else? We have a fairly good number of visitors but they don't seem to want to join.

I think the visitors are mainly associated with Proboards and are not actual people.
Yes, it appears there are just a number of us active. Over the past few years activity has fallen drastically. As to why, I do not know. The average age of users was always older. I think the inactivity is 1) people who used to participate while on the clock are now retired and are making better use of their time and 2) with folks getting up in age they not getting out hunting/shooting as much and the need to talk to about new guns has gone down. Also, every shooting forum online has been beat to death with the same 243 vs 7-08, 308 vs 30-06 threads over and over and over. When Don Goins began the original forum in 2001, he was very persistent to have this be a hunting forum. He was a strong 2nd Amendment supporter but I think he (as I) thought the tactical movement and its followers do not share in the same hobby/sport as traditional hunters. We didn't want a lot of "what's the best gun/ammo for killing people" on the forum. I think traditional hunting guns are a afterthought today aside from 2 weeks out of the year for deer season.
We had a niche and that niche has come and gone. I think it's safe to say the forum has died. I will always remember the friends I made; Jimh and I still try to meet up every year or so. I think the forum still contains a lot of useful threads in its archives. As long as proboards is a free site, I will continue to keep it running. Hopefully we can check in with eachother from time to time and get some threads going again.

Red I think you have hit the nail on the head with your reply. I know I can no longer hunt or shoot like I used to because of crippling arthritis. However I still think about it and envy you guys.
