Well , the first head coach firing has taken place. Jeff Fisher coach of the LA Rams was given a 2 year contract extension last week, and then fired this week. .. you figure it out! Special teams coach John Fassel (son of Jim Fassel) will take over as interim head coach. There are rumors about a few other coaches getting the ax, too. Rex Ryan in Buffalo, Todd Bowles with the Jets, Chuck Pagano in Indy, Mike McCoy in San Diego, and Gus Bradley in Jacksonville. And Chip Kelly in San Francisco. Usually, teams wait for Black Monday - the day after the regular season ends, to fire coaches. Maybe not this year. Another thing to watch for is changes among general managers. If a GM does a lousy job of drafting talent, it's tough for a head coach to do well, but, since GM's hire and fire coaches, it's usually the coach that gets fired, not the GM. An old adage about fecal matter flowing down hill comes to mind. . . . . . Maybe not this year. There are rumors about GM's getting fired this year, too - particularly Trent Balke in San Francisco.

Another one bites the dust Jacksonville fired head coach Gus Bradley on Sunday, after the Jaguars lost again to go to 2-12. No word yet on who takes over as interim coach. Rumor has it that Jacksonville wants to talk to Tom Coughlin. Coughlin was Jacksonville's first coach when they came into the league, and he took them into the playoffs, before coaching the NY Giants. Just in: Jacksonville has named Doug Marrone as interim head coach. Marrone has been assistant head coach at Jacksonville, and previously was head coach at Buffalo.

Another one: Rex Ryan was fired by Buffalo today. Buffalo also fired Rob Ryan, Rex's brother, who was defensive coordinator. Anthony Lynn was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Black Monday is upon us. Chip Kelly got fired in San Francisco, as did GM Trent Baalke. The San Diego Chargers fired head coach Mike McCoy. In Denver, Gary Kubiak stepped down as head coach, citing health concerns.

Now maybe Kelly will go back to the college ranks and the NFL will be rid of him. He was surely a looser in the NFL. I expect there will be others in addition to those you mentioned earlier.

The 2nd phase of the off season re coaches has started. Jacksonville announced that interim coach Doug Marrone will be their new head coach. Marrone has head coaching experience, having been head coach at Buffalo. Jacksonville had interviewed Tom Coughlin, and they have hired him as a VP of football operations.

Denver has hired Vance Joseph, former defensive coordinator at Miami, as their new head coach. It is being reported that Buffalo has hired Sean McDermott as their new head coach. McDermott has been defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.

I wonder how long it will be before the Jets fire Todd Bowles. He is a good guy and seems to be well liked but has an abysmal record. For my part, I wouldn't mind seeing Jay Gruden get the axe at Washington.

If Bowles has lasted this long, they probably won't fire him - just my guess. The Jets are going to suck until they get a QB - not sure who coaches them will make much difference until they do.

The LA Rams have named Sean McVay as their new head coach. McVay had been offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins.

Busy day on the west coast. The LA Rams new head coach, Sean McVay, has hired Denver defensive coordinator Wade Phillips as the new defensive coordinator for the Rams. The San Diego Chargers announced that they are moving to LA, and that Anthony Lynn is their new head coach. Lynn had been offensive coordinator at Buffalo under Rex Ryan.

1st, I am surprised that Wade Phillips would leave the Broncos for essentially a lateral position with the Rams. 2nd I am surprised that the Broncos would let him go. I still say that Elway is the biggest problem with the Broncos. I can't believe that San Diego is moving to LA although I have been hearing this for some time now. Wonder what's going on here. I have also heard for some time now that the Raiders were going to move (back???)to LA. It seems kind of weird that LA who had no team for so long may now have 3??? I am sure there's a very (and probably monetary) reason for all this, but I for one fail to see it!!!

I think the reason Wade Phillips left Denver is that the new Denver head coach is a defensive guy, and may not need Phillips, or possibly wants to run another system. Phillips contract with Denver was up, so he was free to go wherever he wanted. I keep hearing that Oakland wants to move to Las Vegas. I don't see a point of 3 teams in LA. The Chargers wanted a new stadium in San Diego, paid for by the city, and didn't get it, so they moved to LA. I have no idea what stadium the Chargers will play in, or the Rams either, for that matter.

! had heard the Rams were also going to build a new stadium but would still nominally be in LA. I had forgotten that the Raiders were planning to go to Las Vegas.

I believe the last head coaching position has been filled. Kyle Shanahan, formerly offensive coordinator at Atlanta, has been named the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
