How is the deer season going for everyone? So far, I've only hunted once - saw a small doe and let her go. Deer season here in Georgia is going to be interesting this year. Georgia is in a severe drought. Feed plots this year look like plowed fields - no rain in more than 2 months. Looks to me like hunting the water sources is going to be the better tactic.

I haven't been able to deer hunt for a few years now because of chronic back problems but I will be pulling for you guys.

I've gone 5-6 times and killed a 7 pointer.
It's the 2nd weekend of the rifle season and here I sit at home with the new dog we adopted friday night.

Good job, Red! What kind of dog did you get?

1 year old Australian Shepard
We're dealing with a lot. We were led to believe this dog was ready to be adopted. As it turns out - she is extremely timid, has extreme separation anxiety (who breaks out of a cage kennel), has worms, and we're hoping a urinary infection because she lets the flood gates open when she gets excited.
We called the adoption agency today to yell about them letting this dog be adopted like this and the agency was shocked. They said they fired the foster mom a couple days ago and wanted us to give a written statement for their lawyer. Can't be mad at the aussie rescue group, they were told she was ready to go.
We're getting reimbursed for these vet bills so I guess that's fine. We're going to have to teach some behavior...

This year I was able to get out to the deer stand. My fall last year prevented any hunting or even firing a weapon due to TBI. I spent most of the 9 days sick but did manage to let a 6 pointer keep walking to get bigger. The success of the year was definitely my 12 year old grandson Clay. He received his hunter’s safety in October and was quite excited to get his own license this year. He worked with me reloading some .243s for his Grandma’s rifle she was letting him use. We spent some range time and I finally got him to squeeze the trigger not just pull it. In the end he was shooting dead center bulls at 100 yards. He came with us up north to clear out shooting lanes. He was excited to do it and he and I had a good time. Then came opening weekend for us. Because we hunt on 500 acres of private land we take everything out to the deer stands the day before. We did this for both his and my deer stands. His Mom was going to go out with him to Grandma’s (wife Debby’s) deer stand. They got in the stand about 40 minutes before shooting time and waited. A little before 8 he tried to blow the grunt call but couldn’t get it to work. He handed it to his Mom (my daughter Beth) to give it a try. She managed to get a couple grunts out. 5 minutes later this brute came trotting down the trail. Clay remembered all he was taught. The face of success is the smile on this 12 year old’s face after he shot his first buck!!! Attachments:

I am sure you are much happier (ans prouder) with your grandson shooting the deer than had you done it. Congratulations!
