I saw in the American Hunter magazine where Savage had come out with a new 22 WMR autoloader - the A22 Magnum. it has a synthetic stock and a 10 round rotary magazine. The guy writing the article said it was the most accurate 22 WMR he had ever shot. It's definitely a nice looking rifle from the pictures.

I don't know, I've heard neutral things at best about the A17.
The problem with saying "this is the most accurate 22mag autoloader ever" is there is really nothing fair to compare it to. Yeah they made the Ruger 10/22 magnum and I'm thinking Marlin made one for a while...but no one other than Savage has made one in the hornady ballistic tip and good factory trigger era.
It's like saying "we are the best Greek restaurant in town" when in reality you are the only Greek restaurant in town.

You are right of course. However the guy writing the article was very specific in saying it was the most accurate 22 WMR as opposed to the the most accurate 22 WMR autoloading rifle he had ever shot. I've noticed that the gun scribes seem to always highly praise the gun they are writing about at the time. All that being said, I do think Savage rifles are usually very accurate, at least the ones I've had and shot. My Savage model 65M 22 WMR bolt action is very accurate and consistent. I can count on making hits on groundhogs out to 150 yds and have hit one at 186 yds with it.

A few people have tried to make 22WMR autoloaders before -the Ruger that Red mentioned, for one. Someone tried to make a 22 WMR pistol, too - can't recall who it was. And some 17's as well. The much higher pressure the 22WMR produces, compared to the standard 22RF, seems to cause problems in the blowback actions that have been used. For that reason, I might hesitate to buy this new Savage until it had been on the market for a while, and had the bugs worked out, if there are any.

The article said that Savage had already made this same gun in 17 HRM. I seem to recall H&R made a 22 WMR autoloader that looked really nice from the pictures, though I never actually saw one. I have always had (and still do) bolt actions in 22 WMR, thinking that they would be more accurate and definitely more dependable. My Savage model 65M has been accurate on pasture pigs out to 150 yds and, in a few of cases, even further. I have always been a big fan of the 22WMR and have always had at least one in my collection. Conversely, unlike Red, I've never had or wanted a 17 HRM.
