I have seen these guns on the rack and have been tempted to get one as I love old hammer guns but...
I have one in the shop now for a tune up. The trigger pulls from the factory were so high I couldn't measure them on a trigger pull guage and on a bathroom scale they ran 15 pounds or more. I have the locks disassembled in from=nt of me and have started on one lock and have come to the conclusion that there will be NO huglu in my future. The lcks are butifly case hardened feces. The springs are over sized and over weight because the tumblers and sears are crudly finished and are not properly hardened. The tumber binds if the screws are proerly tightened and the tumbler is not supported on the inside but is simply covered over with the plate. ll in all the lock is what I would expect to find on a 100 dollar CVA JUKAR rather than a $750.00 shotgun. If the rest of the gun is as well mae as the locks I would expect this gun to go off face in about 500 rounds!
This was a severe disapointment to me.

I got the locks fixed with triggers set for 3.5 right and 4.0 left. I had to arden the tumbler and sear after doing the work and ended up stoning the parts flush and smooth so the lock works with no drag. A lot of the trigger pull was the sear dragging on the lock plate. So if you buy one of these count on $40 per lock to get them smooth and hard.

I think Red use to know a gal that would get it smooth and hard for 40.00 top ! I took today off and went out and shot that 1897, all seems well. I did not realize that Winchester put a factory overtrave screw in the trigger guard way back then. And yes you can hold the trigger down and pump fire the magazine empty! The youngest is going to have a field day using this thing on tree rats.

Actually, there is a type of squirrel known as a flying squirrel. They glide, rather than truly fly.
