Okay, the heat wave is over, and the nights are becoming cool, at least up here they are. I'm heading to the range tomorrow to get sighted in. I've got a couple of new rifles that I don't feel quite comfortable with yet. Both are Remingtons, a VLS in 6mm Rem. and a 700BDL in .25-06. How about you guys. Are you getting any range time? Better yet, any new rifles out there to brag or carp about? I'm all ears. C'mon share with me. Best wishes.

How does that 25-06 shoot Cal? You ought to have that 6mm shooting by now, this about it's 3rd season, if my memory isn't failing too bad.

My rifle is sited in...sort of. I put leupold mounts and rings on in hopes of keeping zeros. After 6 shots of remington 7mag reduced recoil, the rifle shot 1inch groups dead on. Then I found a half box of super x. A few rounds of those grouped about 2 inches (low and right). I'm not worried about it though since I'm going to be bowhunting on my rifle tag at a bow only place this year Had a chance at 500 acre lease in a good county. Unfortunatly, it was the worst 500 acres in that good county...so I paced.

Hello Scott,
Yeah, it's the third year for the 6mm Rem. and the second for the .25-06. I'm hopelessly behind in all my activities. In fact, I've only been to the range once this year. I just got my drivers license back earlier this week. Motor Vehicles gets notified of all disabling injuries. In my case they suspended my license after my stroke. That's when the fun begins. Between computerized reflex testing, drivers lessons and a host of driving tests it's eaten me up alive on time. A work stoppage at Motor Vehicles didn't help at all. It ended up costing me about $700. Heck, I could have bought another rifle for that much money, at least a decent scope. I guess if the truth be known, when you reach 60 or so they simply want you off the road. I couldn't believe the severity of the testing process. Anyway, I'm heading out tomorrow to start making up for lost time. A lot of us here at the forum seemed to get smacked good and proper medically in the last year or so didn't we? Bubba and Stumpjumper readily come to mind. It's all behind us now. Let's see where we go from here. Best wishes.

Yes, the remington shot horrible last year. The winchester shoots the same. All things being equal, I'll take the more power over the groups for missouri deer.
I think my brother and I are putting in for duck draws during rifle season, but we'll see how that goes.

well i called this one gunsmith over the weekend and i think i'm finaly going to get my ruger tweeked. i'll have him work the factory trigger to get it to 3lbs and have him bed the action and cut the L.O.P. on it to fit me. i should drop it off on fri. i can't do much shooting right now so i better get it done while i can. when i dicussed the rifle and told him it was a m77 he said once he beds the action i should go on ahead and float the barrel and not worry about the pressure point. it seems he has done quite a few rugers this way and he says he gets exellent results.

Well, I'm back from the range, spent all day there yesterday. I took 5 rifles with me, shot 15 groups (5 shots). My smallest group with any rifle was 1.1". It was windy, but not that bad and no mirage to speak of. This is per usual with me. My first time out each year is usually a disaster in the accuracy department, never knew why. It just is. Later on in the year I'll probably break an inch 13 or 14 times out of 15. It's not the rifles, it's me trying to feel comfortable all over again. I can't read range conditions, have to relearn technique from the bench. Hey, I'd better stop. This is starting to sound like True Confessions. Hope your first trip out is more rewarding. Best wishes.

Cal, I have been waiting every since you bought that .25-06 to find out how you did with it or really how it did for you. I have 6 rifles to get sighted in and back in and no time to do it. I think the B78 Browning in .25-06 is going to be the one I use for Antalope so its getting the Nosler Ballistic Tips in 100 Grainers. I just have to get my reloading bench put back together and get to reloading for it is all.

Well I mounted my Cabela's Alaskan Guide 6.5X20X44AO on the Ruger m77V MKI .25-06. Now I can see just what I can wring out of it. The Simmons 6X18X44 AO Pro Hunter ended up on the AR15 .223 that is slowly becomming a varmit rifle. The Browning/Redfield Widefield 3X9X40 went to the Browning Olimpian .270 The Redfield 3X9X40 is going to the Ruger 10/22. And the Browning B78 .25-06 has now got a 6X Leupold mounted on it. Looks to me like I got some sighting in to do. Planned on doing it today but with the wind blowing like it is, (cold front came thru last night) I don't think its going to happen.

i pick up both my rifles today but i won't get out to shoot them for a couple of weeks, it's gonna kill me until i know for sure they both shoot well. i will be curious to see how well point of impact holds when i put the scopes back on the rifles. i am expecting the ruger to be within an inch of where it was before but with the bedding being done and the barrel floated i guess it could be way dif. from where it was before. now the savage on the other hand should be very close as the mounts i used where a quick release type, and the barrel was already free floated.
