Last week, for the 4th year in a row, I did a week long fly in fishing trip with my brother. Total fish caught was down a little from last year with only 596 caught by the two of us. With things a little behind last year we encountered a mayfly hatch and rain pretty much every day. Walleye were a lot shallower than usual and the large numbers of 22-26" fish eluded us. Largest walleye by anyone in the group was 28", my brother got a 26", and the last guy and myself only managed a 25" fish for our largest. The 50" northerns that I know are there eluded me again. Biggest was 34" but I caught it on 10# test line, spinning rod, and no leader on the crankbait. I did really slam the smallmouth bass though. 9 trophy fish in total over 18" with the largest 20-1/4". It kind of bugged my brother which was icing on the cake. Next week I am headed back to Ontario with my wife, middle daughter and her boyfriend, and another couple. Going to Temple Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake via coach there and back for 5 days. Should be a great time. In addition to the fish available on the flyin there are also musky and some nice perch. Yep.........I could definitely get used to this!!!

Sounds like a great time. I've always wanted to do that. I guess I know who to ask for when I do

Nice trip but the wind was the biggest negative. It kept us off the mid lake reefs where most of the big walleye were supposed to be caught. Rain a few days that wouldn't have been as bad except for the wind. Still had a great time and brought back a few walleye and about 25 perch all over 9" with the biggest being 11".
So after being home for a couple weeks wife wants to take another week off to go fishing. This time it is the Willow Flowage that we haven't fished yet this year. A very wild flowage with hardly any cottages on the 92 miles of shoreline. It is a good lake for northern, walleye, big perch, smallmouth bass, and an occasional largemouth here and there. I don't think I will catch 9 over 18" like I did in Canada but we usually get some good SM topwater action this time of year.
