Had a fellow come in the other day and he wanted a new shotgun for trukey hunting. Showed him a Mossy Turkey special 24" barrel screw in chokes ect and he started slobbering and came back and traded in a Wards 30/ Stevens 520 and a wad of cash for the Mossy.
So I got to looking at the Stevens, a solid steel take down shotgun with about 90% of the original blue and a nice tight action...HMMMM Turkey gun???
I lopped the barrel to 24" and put in screw in chokes, $85.00 added to the $90 trade in price. Then I drilled and tapped the front of the magazine tube and added sling swivels and a sling, another $25.00. Put a new bead on the front at the cost of $5.00. I didn't have the heart to cover up that nice walnut stock and fancy blue job but another $5.00 would paint the gun camo and there is the turkey gun for less money that he paid to boot on a plastic stocked, plastic and aluminum Mossy.
" these are simple people, the common clay of the new West... you know, morons..."
Some folks just don't appreciate what they have.

Nice job, Twomoons. 5$ more will buy you enough camo tape to cover the gun during turkey season. A set of rifle sights and a different choke tube, you've got a deer gun shooting slugs, too.

The steven savage line gets overlook. I have the stevens model 24 22/410 and the savage 24 22/20 guage. Maybe with 5 years of each other and the stevens has a different finish but everything else is the same.
I think grandpa's shotguns are the best buy in firearms right now. I picked up a used glock 17 in very good shape at the last weekends gun show as trade bait for a good grandpa's shotgun. I paid 400 for the glock with 3 mags and a cheap holster. Private sale the guy wanted to buy a smth shield. Heck he had the same thing in the glock already. Some people got to trade it around. I will trade this off for a shotgun most likely.
. I picked up myself a nice little limber carry II in 45 acp also. It has carry wear, The Idiot mark from take down, and the night sights are starting to fade. He was asking for 650 for it. I peeled off 5 one hundered dollars bills and then had to peel off a fifty to get it. I think the 3 inch barreled 45 acp should be a blast (Pun intended). I might reblue or parkerize but for a carry gun i think it might just stay the way it is. A won't have to worry about it getting messy looking again that way.

You mean we don't need super short barrels, super tight chokes, and camo everything on the gun? I do like the 3 1/2" shells though

I do like the 3 1/2" shells though Not if you actually have shot any! I sold my 3 1/2" pump off after one season of shooting it even though it threw a great pattern and dropped a nice bird way out there. Dang that thing hurt to shoot.

The biggest I go with is 3 inch. 3 inch #4 buck From winchester can bruse my shoulder up go if I don't keep the shotgun very sell seated against my shoulder in coyote season.
As Far 3 1/2 shells and large payload loads don;t you have to pick all that lead out of the bird if you want to eat it.

I can't remember ever shooting a turkey more than 20 yards away and my closest was right at 7 yards so I don't need or want 3" or above. What I see as the biggest advantage of the Savage 520 is the easy SOLID take down on the Burgess patent. This lets me put the package into a square 24" case that doesn't look like a gun case so I can carry it in the open.

Well it's pretty easy to tighten a 97 loosen a screw and turn the adjuster. Now I have a Harley battery in the shop for sale???
