Well I opened my mouth and said I wanted to go to a Rifle Match on the 22nd of June. Now there are 4 of my co-workers that also want to shoot and the store has said they want us to attend and want us shooting. Its is a long range shoot that goes out to 1300 yds and is a all steel target match. If you hit the target it counts. Sounds like it is 50 rounds fired and at a ton of different ranges from 100 -1300 yds. Sill waiting for the shoot description. Looks like I am going to have to get the 6.5 Creedmore warmed up and running. Its a Savage Mod 12 LRP and to date had never been fired. One of the other guys is shooting the same gun but in a .260 Rem which is just about the same thing. Another is shooting a.243 AI and the other two are shooting .308's. Its going to be a tough one as the distances are not exact and your going to have to know your drops pretty exactly at all ranges. All you know is that the Min and Max distance isi know. Should be fun. its put on by http://www.M&Mtactical.com/facebook is anyone wants to look. The only take 40 shooters so if you want to put in for it you better hurry. ;D

That should be fun Bill. Is it with any front rest or bipod? Any scope? No I wouldn't attend the match, just curious. If there is anything I can help just let me know. seb.

Sabastian, it is shot with a bipod, prone, any scope from the looks of it. My favorite way to shoot. Sorry Ernie, I didn't realize that. I had been thinking it was a different weekend and planned on trying to make it to the MOA this year. Like I said, I opened my mouth and the store decided that we show up. I should of learned a long time ago to keep my mouth shut. Not so sure that I will be ready for it and will have to hustle to get everything ready but will do my best. Seeing as how it is only an hour away and the people putting it on are well known in the store it was suggested that we attend. I don't think that anyone even was thinking MOA at the time.

Understood. If they put another match on at a different time, let me know. It is close enough for me to attend.

Took my 6.5 Creedmoor out for its first outing Monday. Took 5 rounds to get it on paper and the last three of those shots were in a .25" group at 100 yds. Like normal I seldom stay on paper once I get my gun firing center bull at 100 yds and moved onto the 675 yd gong. My chronograph said I was getting 2770 for MV using the 142 SMK bullet. First problem I ran into was my chrono was down so I had used another on that one of the other guys brought. Not sure how accurate it was but my drops didn't match the drop table. I ended up using one MOA less than the drop table showed to get to the 675 yd mark. Did get a second round hit though on a 5" gong though and continued to hit with no problem. We then moved to 875. This kind of through me a bit as I had to dial in 1.5 more than the drop table said for this range. Once I got dialed in though hits were easy with the gun which is a Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor and using a 6.5X20X50MM Mk4 Tactical with the TMR reticule, Harris bi pod. We then moved out to 1175 which is where the problems got worse with my drop table. I dialed up the drops the table called for and fired. My spotter an another spotter and I all sat there watching and NOTHING! This is really bad as if you cannot spot your shots your in trouble. I fired off 6 rounds trying to spot the shot. Moved up 2-3 MOA and Down 2-3 MOA.Nothing. Too much grass and weeds or something. It called for 36.4 MOA but we never were able to spot any of the shots. We looked around and found a spot at 1110 yds that had an open are around it and moved another 10" gong to that spot. Drops showed 32.6 but after shooting a couple rounds and spoting the shots I dropped down to 31.2 MOA and was easily able to bang the gong and even moved back to the original gong and added 2 MOA and banged that gong twice in a row. About that time we had a breeze come up and was a cross wind from 3. O clock and found that we were getting about 15' of drift. We figured out that the wind was hitting us from 3 O clock and then curving down the valley and going straight away giving us about a 1/4 value wind but not staying consistent. By this time we were also getting a large amount of heat wave boil as the temps had risen to almost 90 degree's. All in all we were very happy with what we found but one thing we did find was that if you have to shoot 40 rounds for the match and do it in 20 minutes and are changing ranges for each target its going to be a BITCH. If you have an inconsistent wind (its South Dakota what else would you expect) ;D its going to be another one of those. If the temps that day are in the 90's and up heat waves are going to be a problem although they can also be a good problem. Heat waves can show wind direction and speed. Temp changes can make a difference and so can humidity over a days shooting. If you set up your drops for one heat and humidity and it changes before you shoot it can cause a slight difference. Slight can mean miss or hit on a 10" target at 1200 yds. It sure will make for an interesting day though. Conditions for the day yesterday while shooting were. Altitude 4144 Temp 70 at the start and 92 at the finish. Barometric preasure 29.53 Humidity started 35% and ended at 22% Wind started at slight from 3 O'clock and ended up 0 to 6.8 MPH Don't sound bad until you begin shooting to 1100 plus yds. ;D ;D

Bill, my experience with drop charts is about what you saw- they are a loose estimate at best. Got to test your load at the real distance, I think. These days, with a laser, reliable scopes, and a drop chart you've worked out, the up and down is pretty easy. Well, compared to 40 years ago, it's easy. Let's say, easier. It's the wind that's always tough.

What were doing now is working up each gun for each distance and plan on shooting all those distances to the point we pretty much can get it right once we know the distance of the target as we can use rangefindes at the match. The hard part is getting the drops and ranges all correct and in 30 seconds per shot. What were planning is working as a team (5 of us) and have it to the point where we know what it will be when we shoot.

I might be in trouble. Corporate come out with this really bright idea on getting more used guns coming in. They put out flyers saying bring your guns into the store on such and such a day and get them appraised. Their doing it a whole weekend. So guess when they are doing it. YUP The same weekend at the shoot. This has happened three years in a row now. Get ready for something and WOOPS can't do that, Have to do this instead. ARRRgggggggggg. Well they ain't told me no I can't go yet but I think it is coming.

Get the 7x57, DD. I have a #1 International in 7x57 - great deer rifle. The barrel is 20 inches, too short for a 25-06, IMO. I know they made it in 243 and 30-06 as well as 7x57, and maybe 270?, but I'm not sure they ever made that model in 25-06.

Still looking for a H@K p7 m8 (Or PSP) if one walks in the door.
I missed the german police trade in at AIM Surplus. I missed the 1980's roll out of them when brand new. I watched the German mark increase in value and the american dollar tank, I see a few ever once in a while for sale but can't ever seem to connect with available cash or trade.

Well I had the choice. Make one of the other guys that was off stay home from the shoot and work or stay home and work myself. I took the high road and let the other guy go and chose to stay home and work myself. I hope this provides me with good karma someday when I need it.
