Let me preface this by saying 3 things 1. I've only had 2 other pieces done and they were from someone else 2. This taxidermist has been doing this for over 50 years 3. This deer was in pretty rough shape from being in fights I asked for semi-sneak to the left. It appears to be pretty much face forward but with his head to the left. Is this pose considered semi-sneak? This looks...ok...from a distance This is something I can't figure out if the deer was like this or something happened at the taxidermist (perhaps the way it's head is twisted). The white patch on his throat is not smooth. A portion of the white patch has a clump of hair sticking out. I can't really see how someone can screw that up, so I think it's the way the deer was. Perhaps someone could shed some light on whether they have seen this before? One ear is completely covered in hair, the other one is pretty bare. The bare spot is on the side where he was injured...not sure if wounds on the face could face hair to fall out in his ear. Again, I'm not sure if this is one of those things that happen in some mounts. Here are the wounds on his face. There was a massive2" tear in his lip from fighting. So again, my main question is - did the taxidermist do the best job he could in fixing it? You can see the black lacing where he sewed it. I understand that ripped skin will draw up a bit in the tanning process. Overall honest impressions?

The mount doesn't look that bad but boy he sure shrunk the antlers didn't he? Next time send me the antlers and I will send you somthing you can pass on the the grandkids.

I'm getting used to it. It's a combination of a bad hide to start with and bad taxidermist work. It looks a lot better when viewed from the side, which is hard to do with the house I have now. In the future, I hope to put it somewhere else and also have a couple more mounts to take attention off of it.

Red, don't take any crap from twomoons... a trophy is in your heart man. If that deer was wall worthy to YOU, then it's there. the reason you have the mount is to remember the hunt, and maintain the bond with the buck that you took. it matters not if someone else is impressed.
