I have been looking for another 270 for quite a while and was looking for a Husky to go with my Husky shotguns and 22 rifle. Well Ifinally came up with one and had a chance to shoot it yesterday.
Now bear in mind I am spoiled on 270 as this was my Father in Law (Jack Jr's) favorite caliber and he shot a Winchester M70 from 1946 or so till he died in the late 90''s. I started with a Remington 721 in 1970 or so and I thought it was a pretty good gun, but Dad was always down on it because it wasn't a 24" barrel and the Remiington's wern't bedded as good as the Winchesters ect. But he had a real soft spot for the Sako and the Husky because they were skandahoovian guns and everyone knows they had the best steel in the world.
Well now that Dad is gone I have a gun he would finally approve of... the Huusky is a 24" barrel FN action with Swede steel barrel and was made in 1950. The wood is birch to match the stock on my other Husky's and is niicely figured and checkered. A classic rifle with an old Buehler scope mount with all adjustments in the mount and made for the 2.5 B and L Balvar that I happened to have in the shop. The rifle itself is in about 90% condition with a mint bore and after cleaning it and figuring out the mount I took it to the range where it put 3 shots of factory ammo into 1 1/4" c-c from the car window. A minor adjustment and it put 3 more in the center of my black target in 1 1/2" from the car window. I can't wait to get this on the bench this spring. I have 40 years of load data and will load up some 130's tonight.
I must say that although the Buehler mount isn't as handy to use as dials on the scope, when you tighten it up it is sure solid and the Balvar with on adjustments in the scope itself is still perfect, clear and bright after being made in 1960. The mont iitself after it is adjusted has positive lockinng screws on every adjustment. My Dad had one on his 270 that he bought new with the rifle and he finally put it on in 1990 when his eyes got bad. The gun was sighted in in 1990 and my brother in law shot it a while back and it was still dead on it's setting.
