I have to say, I hate 2012. Too dam many uncertainty's. Too few guns bought on my part. Retirement no closer than the year before, and even had to get rid of a gun to pay some bills. That is just wrong. In June I bought a Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmore to play with at long range. Its still in the box unfired. I bought my hunting and fishing license and hunted pheasants for 2 days and fished for 3 days. That was it. No deer hunting due to the drought and chances of fire. No Antelope hunting due to the lack thereof and also chances of fire. And no Elk hunting as getting a tag for that in SD is one in a million. I wrecked my 2008 Ford F150 super crew in July by hitting a deer while passing a semi on the interstate at 10:00 in the morning. Couldn't see it coming out of the ditch due to being along side the semi trailer but it missed the truck and landed squarely in front of me at 80 mph. Had to sell my .264 Win mag to pay for the deductible. About every third weekend that I would of had off I spent on the road buying guns for the store so that cut into any time off I would of had by a huge amount. Almost got killed a number of times on those trips and really do not want to go to Colorado ever again. Ran into more druggie's than I thought existed on those trips also. That got almost as scarey. I did buy two progressive presses and now have enough ammo to make it through a whole years shooting at the gun club without reloading which is the one good thing to come out of 2012. So all in all for the most part I have to say, 2012 Sucked a big one. My main goal for 2013 is to hunt and fish more than I did in 2012, shoot a lot more than I did in 2012 and get closer to being able to retire.

Those are good goals, Bill. I hope they come true for you, and for all of us!

Well Bill it looks to me like 2012 was great for you. You stated you could have been killed a couple times, but you weren't. You're still here typing away in this forum and that is a lot better than the alternative. For the record I'm not a glass half full kind of guy, nor am I a glass half empty kind of guy, I've always thought the idiot just used the wrong size glass! Cheers and here's to all of us getting out to fish, hunt and shoot a lot more in 2013. Oh and get laid more too!

How about your christmas boneus for selling DD so many guns? Yeah I'm jellous lol. Well 2012 gave me a shop better than I ever dreamed of even, so I'm pretty happy about that. Due to the drouth I too did no hunting or get anything even started on my trap & skeet range. I now I still need to make a special shooting bench for in the shop so I can sit by the stove and shoot lol. I did get the best bed in the world to sleep in and give my leg the thearopey it needs to keep it & me walking so that was very good as well. Also got a new son inlaw and That seems to be good also, so I woun't bitch but for the dam election.

Bill, remember... you never know when the end is coming. Not to be a Debbie downer, but if you're ALWAYS working for tomorrow, you don't enjoy your TODAYS. You GOT to plan ahead, but you also GOT to take the time to do the things you love while you can. One of these days you're not gonna be lucky and one of those "I might have died" moments is gonna be a "Holy crap I died!" moment, and all you're gonna have to show for all your hard work, is a face full of stress lines, and a frown. Resolve yourself to fish more in 2013. I also have not fished much in the last few years. My son is 5 and I take him a few times to the pond to catch gills... but I should do it more. I resolve to do so this year. He's DIEING to go hunting. I took him squirrel hunting this year and killed a squirrel. We was STOKED. He really wants to deer hunt with me too. So... I have vowed to build a couple elevated shooting houses on our property so we can sit in them during bow season when it's nice out, and hopefully stick a deer. I plan to buy a crossbow to make that easier. He has a youth bow too. And REALLY wants to start shooting it. He plays with it a lot and can draw it fine. So for his birthday, I plan to buy him the accessories he needs to start shooting his bow. A rest, a release, a sight and some arrows. Maybe he's getting big enough to shoulder a gun and start shooting a little too. He's almost 50" tall. Although he's not even 6 yet, he's a strapping boy with a physique that hollywood beau's would pay to have. I am feeling a little froggy this AM. I wish I was in the woods. I am up WAY earlier than I wanted to be. I get like this sometimes around the Holidays. I guess what I am getting at is that EACH of us should remember to take the time to do the things we love today, because we might not have a tomorrow. When that day comes... all our loved ones will have left is their memories of us. We HAVE to make those memories for them. Jabba

Ya I guess I always get a bit depressed at the end of the year. Never see the family enough, never hunt and fish enough, never shoot enough. Always work too much.

Bill at least you're close enough to retirement that it's just right in front of you. Mine is still about 14 yrs down the road. IF I live that long.

Bill after you fall off the fiscal cliff in 2013 retirment will just be that much further away. Or you could retire like me and work 3 jobs to pay for it.

I had a good year.
I got a few new guns. First year at the Conservation club shooting range and I vow to do it more this year including some small bore matches and some bullseye.
I will never retire so I don't worry about that.
We had a good christmas (I got a new black baseball hat)
I would like to give turkey a try in 2013 but pickings in my area are very slim. Might have to bug JABBA into going. I did not catfish once this year,
I took a new job the day after christmas. I also have a gun shop wanting to hire me for part time sales and scope mounting/range renter.
My oldest daughter made all-stars in softball and start traveling for games with a travel team (Several guns could have been purchased) and the youngest is doing competitive cheer (Several guns could have been bought). Both have promised to go shooting with me unfortanatly the oldest outshoots me. I plan on spending lots of time and money on the sports again this year. Do you guys know what a softball bat travel ball worthy costs. I could buy a off sale ruger 10-22 and a scope.
2009. That was my bad year.
A few years ago a friend of mine retired from the union. He had a Great 1989 porsche 911 that he bought used in 1991, He kept it in the garage for 25 years with a trip a year to a local car show and to church and ice cream ect. Low miles clean as the day it came off the boat. He retired and that was his retirement car. On the second trip it took in it he put it into the retaining wall on I-465 and totaled it out. Seems to 25 year old tires dry rotted while in the garage for 25 years and caused it to crash. SO much for a retirement present to ones self.

Oh man... that really sucks.
2012 was OK for me... not too bad. I worked too much. I don't see an end to THAT, but I do a pretty good job of leaving it at work, and spending the time with my wife and boy that we all need. Ben comes to the cabin with us a lot now, and he LOVES it there. His uncle doesn't really hunt deer anymore, and stays back anyway, so no harm done in him keeping an eye on the lad when I am off chasing the deer.
jMarriott, I am a slack ass turkey hunter. I always SAY I am going to do it more, but honestly, if I get out 2-3 days it's a pretty good year. I have never killed one, and have only shot at 2 in my life. One I missed clean by not having my head down on the sight plane, and the other I knocked the crap out of... but he still got away, but couldn't fly. I guess I was low on that shot. I'll get one eventually I hope. But I am not your guy for a turkey hunt.
