so I got out again this weekend and as I walked up the trail to the field I was going to hunt yesterday afternoon around 3:00 I stumbled on to 5 deer feeding as I got within about 75 yards of the field. I have the afternoon sun beating right down on me like a neon light and I'm standing in the middle of the trail with no cover. it took the next 50 min to inch my way along the ground to get into position so I could shoot. they had moved to the far side of the field and then worked their way back to me. finally I have this little button buch about 50 yards from me looking right at me and the wind is now going straight from me to him. so I swallowed my pride and I capped the succer. then his sister jumped and ran out in front of me and I capped her too. the three adults went in the other direction. I must admit I have filleted bluegill bigger than those two.

Jim did you have to wipe the milk off their lips.
I have done the deer reduction hunts in the past in state parks, The smallest one I took out field dressed at 60 pounds I am sure your's should weigh more. I buy softner salt in larger pound bags. .

no no not all of them, just one. i had bagged up all of the meat that i deboned and placed into the freezer sun evening except for the back straps and tenderloins. those i laid on a wire rack with a large sheet pan underneith to catch any blood and i let those dry age another day in the refrigerator. so last night i wrapped those up and placed into the freezer except one which i just had to cook up. all the other meat i will take to have summer sausage made from. it's all boneless and ready to be ground up, but the back straps and loins will be a feast one night for the family.

Can't say I blame you for what you shot. Those small deer are some of the best eating I have ever had. Congrats.
