...on a gun I don't even have. Henry Firearms is doing a special run of brass receiver covers / barrel bands for rimfire central members that would fit on their regular blued rifles. Basically it turns their round barrel carbine and octogon Frontier into a Yellowboy looking rifle (though keeping the scope mounted on the rail where it belongs). So I'm going to shell out 100 bucks on a couple sets in anticipation of buying a rifle - I've been going back and forth on a Henry for years so it's only a matter of time before I cash in those Cabelas reward points on a little 22lr John Wayne carbine or the larger 22mag. I think it looks pretty sharp provided a bunch of squirrel blood and bugspray doesn't get on it. Attachments:

OK let me get this correct. You are going to buy 2 brass-alloy covers for a rifle you have not yet purchased yet but hope to in the future. I can dig it: heck I have a couple of H&K p7 M9 mags and I don't own a HK pistol. Personally I would have twomoons track you down a Marlin model 39a mountie or find one of them in your area. Still you are going to get the henry I am sure. The Henry Rifles are good for the money and slick as a bottle of KY but the mountie is going to outgroup it and hold value over the years you own it. You can;t make it into a yellowboy but the reciever is steel: the barrel is microchannel, And they have not made them since the late 1980's. Henry rifle is 300-350 (MSRP) depending on model. add 100 to make it a yellowbelly so you got 400 450 in it plus tax ect. A nice used mountie might run you 600 but should increase in price each year at the cost of inflation or a little more. The henry will only ever be work what you can buy a new one for -40%. Here is my model 39a-M not a true mountie as it does not say mountie on it . All but us ultra purest marlin 39a guys would call it a mountie. 1982 version paid about 350 for it at the local gun pushers. Square lever and lighter conture barrel and this one has no golden trigger which was only done for 2 of the model 39m's years. 1982 and 1983. Or the true mountie. Heavy barrel, round lever, peep sight factory drilled, golden trigger, This one was a Pawn shop find and with a leather saddle scabbard it cost me a whole 250 plus tax. I don't think the pawn shop knew what a mountie is. The Henry's are a bit smoother (well the old mountie will give it a close shot at being KY smooth) and lighter in weight because alumialloy does not weigh as much as steel. Save the yellow quasi brass upgrade money and put it down on a mountie in layaway somewhere.

The marlin is a nice little rifle - no doubt about that! I absolutly agree the quality is superior to Henry (especially with that stupid plastic front sight). I'm thinking now I'm going to get just 1 of these sets for $50. It would be easy to sell. You know me, I'm all about finding a good price on things. With my cabelas points the way they are now I could get a henry carbine, john wayne large lever, and give it a nice shiney brass look for $220 out of pocket. I think something like that would be great just as a decorative piece on the wall Add to that the cool factor at the range 1-2 times a year busting up clay birds and cans. As I said though, I could dump that brass piece back on Rimfire just about any time and get my money back.

There are a few things in the gun world I just do not understand. Henry's makes a fine little cheap rimfire rifle. Then they put that plastic front sight and barrel band on it. Hey charge the extra five dollars keep the plastic. Red 220-50 makes 170 on the henry. I can see it at that price. I guess since i have so many lever 22's I just never look at the prices.
The mountie is about the prefect size for a lever rifle and marlin does not make them anymore. the 39a is more accurate opensighted but the long barrel and full size rifle weight make the mountie better.
Also a stainless steel 39a would sell like hotcakes and they don't make them. You can get about the rest of the marlin lineup in stainless.
The marlin camp 9 and camp 45 did not sell well back in the day when 223 and 308 rounds were cheap. Now that 223 and 308 is more expensive and 9mm is the cheap ammo they should sell like hotcakes also. Rework the buffer and release the new improved camp 9.
Remington buys bushmaster and DPMS then releases the r10 and r15, We know they are bushmaster or dpms parts so why would we pay more cause it says remington.
How cheap would that henry rifle be if they did not have that 30 minute infomercial at 4 am on the outdoor channel.
Why does colt not make a CNC python, diamondback or trooper. Yet still sells a single action army. I mean they can make them now with the craftspersons they used to make them with but they would sell a lot of them.

FYI on the Henrys
The barrel bands and front sights are now made out of metal starting about a year ago. The prices seemed to rise about $20, but I think it's worth the extra cost.

Got the brass pieces in the mail today and they look very good. Now I just have to spend 7000 dolllars on my credit card which would give me enough points for a free rifle ;D

"Now I just have to spend 7000 dolllars on my credit card which would give me enough points for a free rifle" That should be easy! Gotta love those credit card points!
