Ok, I will be the first to admit it. I don't know shit about black guns. I have owned three of them but got rid of them as they are like using a garden hose to water one little plant. The shooting club where I shoot handguns at have a small 3 gun match 2 to 3 times a year where they shoot Handgun, Shotgun and rifles at bowling pins. I will be the first to admit that it is a bit tough to shoot a bolt action scoped rifle on bowling pins at 50 yds. The last one I went to my shooting buddy commentated about this and said maybe we should get one. He is getting tired of getting beat due to the slowness of the varmint rifle. A couple days ago I had a DPMS A-15 come in used and used very little. Its the standard weight stainless steel model with the flat top action and flat top gas block on the barrel and a 4 position folding stock. So I picked it up as it was a cheaper than buying one of the Carbon 15 POS guns their all buying that in my mind are not worth taking home. At least this one is all metal. I have owned 3 or the AR 15's so far and none of them every shot worth a crap so I got rid of them. I guess this one if it out shoots a pistol at 50 yds will do just fine for me on the matches but I am going to finally have to learn more about them. The guys on the counter all have them and they swap parts faster than they change their underwear. Ain't a one of them can hit shit past 100 yds though so I guess none of these guns shoot as well as my .223 varmint gun unless you weigh it down enough that you can't carry it but we will see. Might even be fun.

I'm not a black gun fan, myself, Bill - I dislike having my carefully prepped brass flung into the tulies. But, your 3 gun match sounds like a good application for something like that. When I first read your post, I thought "M-1 carbine', but, the price of those has gone crazy of late - I'm sure you can find a black gun cheaper.

50 yards no problems. Price was very good. Does not cost alot to shoot but prefers golden tiger ammo to hold small groups. If you could do any rifle not a rifle caliber then 50 yards this one would hit the markers mark on the pin everytime and gets on sight very fast. Even moving bowling pins would be fair game. I built it for still hunting small patches of woods. It aims like a shotgun and the scout scope (It takes a bit to keep both eyes open.) works very well for fast shots with precise shots. Not as fast as the lockup of an auto but load down the power to 44 spl levels and reciol goes away so you can chuck that lever and be ready for the next shot as fast as the ar. Plus you will be able to tell which pins you shot for sure. SO I take it that your 3 gun matches are pistol shotgun and carbine. In indiana we have those and pistol, carbine and rifle with the bolt guns for long range stuff. The bushmaster corbon 15's are not know as good guns.

The club range only goes out to 50 yds although right next to it is a rifle range and it goes out to 100 yds. The 100 yd range is out of the question as it is always full on weekends. So with that in mind they just use the pistol range for everything. Bounce, I showed up at the last Mouse Gun Match with a Remington 572 DLX pump with iron sights. Everyone else had Ruger 10/22's all decked out with red dots, suppressors, custom stocks, barrels etc. One even has a suppressed Volquartson all decked out. It came down to the guy shooting the Volquartson and I in a shoot off. He was the only one that beat that Remington pump. That was the first outing with it and had never fired the gun prior to that match. I told him he was in trouble next time. Since then the rest of the guys have been upgrading their equipment considerably. Me, I am going to keep using the 572. In the words of my shooting buddies kids, Its the bomb. I don't know where I'm going with this AR-15 thing as I also hate throwing brass away but seems to me that if I can use the garbage steel case crap I can do just fine. My buddy has 2,000 rounds of it and is donating it to the cause. He also has about a dozen mags for it he is donating so it looks like we got something to shoot. Not sure about the BSA red dot on it though. I have a Bushnell Holo Sight that was made by EOTEC that I might put on it.

A varmit platform on an AR will shooot with any varmit gun but that is a whole diffferent animal than a black rifle, although now days they are camo rifles. About all they are good for that I can see is sellig ammo!

It's a 25-20 that I am buying from bill, It's ben siting in T/M's shop for years. I decided when I saw it again yesterday to ask bill what it would take to remove it from T/M's shop to my house, He replyed and I resipracated back as well. Glad I did as Christmas was about to fall on T/M's and I as we were doing pictures for you, Greg Robert's payed us a most pleasant visit, man what a treat!! A moment in jims shop never to be forgoten. Bill can tell you what he wants on the Marlin 25-20 as he knows more than I.

I bought it years ago needing repairs. Two Moons repaired it and was going to send it to me about a year ago. I told him no just sell it and so he has had it in his shop for sale ever since. I know nothing about what year it is or anymore than that except that it had been totally refinished prior to me getting it. Had a good bore and should now be a gun with a lot of life left in it. Enjoy it.

The rifle is a original 25-20 Marlin made in the 1890's to 1910. The rifle when it came in was misssing parts and I had to carve a new locking block out of a chunk of steel. The barrel was ruined as most of the small calibber balcakpowder guns were so I relined the barrel and it is now a shooter. With factory loads it will cut one hole at 25 yards.
