Has anyone tried Wipe Out aerosol foaming bore cleaner? We got some and I tried it in the barrel of my 98 Mauser sporter. In the past, I had never been able to get that barrel completely clean, i.e. a pure white patch. Finally, after a couple of days of repeated applications, I finally got that white patch. We also got and tried some of the same company's Accelerator solvent that supposedly cuts the sit-and-wait time (1-hr. min.) in half. We also tried it in my son's 700 BDL and my Savage 340 and it only took a couple of 1-hr. applications to get a clean patch. The company says to take a gun that you consider has an absolutely clean barrel and try Wipe Out in it. They say you will probably get patches showing the dark blue copper fouling. I'd say the stuff seemed to work pretty good and doesn't really require much more effort and/or time than conventional cleaning with something like Hoppe's No. 9. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried and, if so, what you thought of it.

A shotgun only (Well mainly) friend got a can of it at a ducks unlimited raffle and since it is a copper solvent he gave it to me. He also gave me a can of the foaming copper solvent which he also won at the same banquet it is a quick cleaner. They both seemed to work well. Wish i had known about it when i had my troubled 17 rem.
Dovehunter I thought you had some troubles with your 340 did you get them fixed or rebarreled?

...Dovehunter I thought you had some troubles with your 340 did you get them fixed or rebarreled? I have two 340s: a .30-30 & a .225 Win. The .30-30 is the one on which I tried the Wipe-Out. My .225 I am afraid is going to be a wall hanger. About 2-3 years ago a so-called gunsmith ruined it. I took it to him to remove a separated stuck case neck and, for some reason, the moron took it on himself (i.e. did not consult me) to turn back and rechamber the barrel. To make a long story short, he did not get the chamber centered up and every shot now you have to hammer the bolt open. Of course this jerk denies any fault (and more importantly) liability. Alas, now my gun has been sitting in the shop of real gunsmith for the last couple of years while he claims to be searching for another barrel. I asked him a while back why he couldn't expand his search to include .222 or .223 barrels and rechamber them to .225. He said that wouldn't work, though he never really explained to me why it wouldn't. So, I guess I am screwed all around in regards to my .225 model 340. It's a shame too because the gun really shot well and my wife gave it to me our first Christmas together 35 years ago.

Curiosity got to me - I looked at the GunPartsCorp website last night. They didn't have any 340 barrels, in any caliber. 340's sell at the auction sites for 275-300$, with the 30-30's being the cheapest. The 340 used a barrel nut, like the 110 does, but, I bet it isn't the same dimensions. I haven't used the foam bore cleaners- yet. Simply because I had stockpiled a large quantity of the bore solvents I'm used to using. When the supply runs down, I'll try the foam.

Dove hunter i sold my dads 222 rem 340 F for 225 a couple of years ago when he swithed up to a sako 223. I wil keep an eye out. I remeber you having some issues but did not remember the outcome. I first asked 300 for the 340 as it was rather mint and shot lights out. Dad did not like the bolt throw as it hit his fingers on the scope. I almost bought it myself and turned it into a snow camo with coyote gun. We used the money to fund dad's liberty safe.
