www.missouriwhitetails.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=165173This is a crying shame right here but I'm thinking I might be able to swoop in for a hell of a deal on a rabbit gun. The reciever appears to be in decent shape. It's definatly been used in it's prior life for a couple decades. It doesn't look too bad. He says he has the walnut stock (I assume all wingmasters were walnut?) which is really the key to a wingmaster. Probably should have sent him a private message asking instead of broadcasting that on the open forum So I have 3 questions1. Can any gunsmith put a bead on the rib? 2. What's the pattern like on a sawed off 18" barrel compared to an improved cyinder on my like 26" barrel? Kill a rabbit at 30 yards 3. What might the accessories go for on the used market if I sell them? Did anything he do leave scratches on the barrel? I'm thinking if maybe I could get it and the wood stock for $300, I could sell the synthetic and all that other garbage for maybe $100. Might have to buy a cap for the magazine tube if he doesn't have the original. And what's left if a real honest to god Wingmaster with an open choke for $200. Am I the only one that sees the diamond beyond this bastardization

Top dolar on the light is 80 if it has the pressure switch, the tactial stock is going to get you maybe 40-50 top dollar the Extension is 45 new. The rail maybe a bit with the light. A package deal of 120 should move the items fairly quick to a project gun guy, Maybe 50 more on the cut barrel if someone wants the whole package. Remember that the barrel is going to be a toss off also to me. No choke is good for shooting down a hallway at night and it will get a rabbit at 30 but the pattern is goning to be big. Still used barrels around here in Indiana are 100-150 each depending on what you want. Add it to the package and you got another 50 dollars or so. Or save it for a real open choke. I believe even you could install a bead on the rib. , ...... the condition of the walnut stock is at best questionable since it is not pictured and has been replaced with a plastic one. So 300 minus 120 is 180 plus 20 for the new cap 20 for a new spring and 120 for a barrel. So 340 for what i think you are going to want. At that price i think you can do better. I see nice wingmasters here around 300-400 and expresses about the same for some reason. I would pass. The 870's in 2 3/4 from the 1980's had the real dark walnut wood with some grain and the high polish. They are as good as it gets for the 870's. IMHO. here is one mag minty: look at the wood and ect. Buy now price was 395 or about 40 more than what I think you will have in redoning that one. The wood not matching in the last one is not a replacement, Dad looked for weeks to find me one that matched great, All of these are better deals than that frankenstien gun. Bid on that last one of the links in about 8 days. www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=272676582www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=272956315www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=273517781

Definatly valid points. I agree if I had to buy/trading for another barrel it's certainly not worth buying.
A good question for TM would be what kind of ball park price would it cost to convert this particular barrel to screw-in chokes should the pattern be too big? Would having the barrel already crowned mess anything up?
Curouis if this is a $50 thing or a $100 thing. I already have chokes

No thanks, I'll pass on your link. If anything, I was looking for an improved cylinder.
I'm going to pass on Frankinstein's too. I was only interested in it if I thought the best case senario would come true and be a great deal. It doesn't sound like it.

I think the gun JMarriott found is the better deal of the two.

That one sold quickly It was a good deal for sure. Full choke is great for squirrrel and turkey. Out of curouisity, will a 3" barrel fit onto a 2 3/4" receiver

Last year I bought 80 guns just like the one you were looking at and sold them for $229 each. They lasted a week. I wanted one but didn't even get a chance. On the other hand I just bought a 870 WM LW 28 ga that is in about 95% and has a fixed Full choke. That one is priced at $699 and I can guarantee it won't last long either. Really nice 870 WM sell well because they are sweet guns and work and work. If they don't work it does not take much to fix them. I have a Remington 1100 that I bought as parts with no butt stock and the recoil tube had been broken off and needs to be brazed back on. That is going to cost me $85 to do. The gun cost me $29 and I have purchased another barrel with some rust on it for $25 with rifled sights and smooth bore. If I can get screw chokes put in it I probably will. I already have 2 sets of wood and one set of synthetic stocks. The gun is going to craft guard when I get it back and is going to have the action hard chromed on the action and the barrel will be bead blasted and parkerized. Or completely parkerized. Not totally sure yet. Still going to have less in it than a used gun. My plan for it is to use it for one of the 3 gun matches that are held at the gun club I belong to. Its probably going to get a Holo Sight also. I have a Bushnell that I had left over after I purchased a AR15 POS that could not hit this inside of the barn if you closed all the doors and windows. Tightened that one up and got it to shoot almost as good as a mini 14 which isn't saying much. Resold it and broke even on the sale but ended up with a bunch of parts afterwords. I have another 1100 that is like new with 2 barrels and a Metro barrel and fancy wood and synthetic stock and standard wood. So saying all that Red. What I am saying is be careful. Starting with a good gun you can make just about anything you wish from a trap gun, skeet gun, Riot gun, hunting gun, or about anything else you could desire. Now I'm not sure but it seems that you can put on a 3" barrel on the 2 3/4" action without much of a problem but it also seems that the ejection port might be a bit short. Might have to measure it but yes the barrel will fit. But last of all, be careful, your on a road that will lead you to purchasing all kinds of unnecessary extra's. ;D

...Out of curouisity, will a 3" barrel fit onto a 2 3/4" receiver Don't know about the 870 but the 3" receiver on the 1100 is marked magnum and apparently is longer than the standard receiver. I have always been given to understand that you should not attempt to fire 3" shells (even with a 3" barrel) on a standard receiver. I know Bill said it should work and I know Bill knows more about guns than I do. However, if it were me, I'd write or call Remington's factory in Ilion, New York to get a confirmation on that.

All 870 barrels will fit and work with all 870 recievers.
If you have a reciever with magnum or 870M on the new ones you can fire 3 inch shells. All barrels since the introduction of the 3 inch 12 are maked 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells in mag recievers. I have one of each a 2 3/4 and a 3 inch. I also have a small collection of barrels and not a single one has choke tubes.
I just switch out the whole barrel if I want something with a wide pattern or a tight choke.
I have IC mod full and extra full rifled full and come to think of it I have a removable choke set of cutts comp barrel and 3 choke sets.
My cousin bought or will buy the shotgun above this weekend. When i check it is accually a X-full 30 inch trap barrel with dual beads. 285 was a good price.

Man, I passed on what I thought was a good deal last year on a slug barrel (like $100) because I couldn't confirm anywhere the 3" barrel would be alright on my Super Mag. Sounds like it would have been

Even the super mag will run with 2 3/4 inch barrels as long as you use 2 3/4 shells.
PS that 870 is back up for sale as my cousin passed on the deal. It was not as advertised. No photo in the deal. Had green corrosion under the vent rib and on the reciever. The guy bought it at the Muncie Indiana gun show and it has very poor lighting. I think he will sell it it was just not 95% to my cousin. More like 80-70. He is picky and I don't blame him
