I got a sample of some new bedding compound from an outfit called Fire and Iron and tried it on my first job. Here's how iit worked...
First off this is runny stuff when mixed and so you WILL need flock. I had just about 1/2 of what I would have liked to use so I hhad the rifle in the vise for 24 hours before I moved it. The compound iitself is moore rubbery than acra glass and even when cured it's more like say hot glue than the hard bedding I am use to using. Supposedly this is to better dampen the vibrations and is suppose to contribute to accuracy. Unless you bedded the same rifle in the same stock twice, once with this stuff and once with acraglass I don't know how you would tell. In actual use it seems to work all right but is not as convieniient as acra glass gel. I will post more as I get a chance to really bench the rifle and see how it holds up with time.

Thanks for the report, Twomoons. I'll be interested to see what you think of the stuff in a few months.

D-D, the original fiberglass bedding, Acraglas, came as a liquid you mixed up from 2 liquids. The result was about the consistency of water. You added chopped bits of glass fiber - the flock - to stiffen the mixture so it would stay where you put it. The flock also added strength. These days, Acraglas Gel and the other common bedding compounds have the flock already mixed in, so, when you mix the stuff in preparation for bedding, you get something that's about the consistency of molassas. The original AcraGlas, without flock, was used by some folks as a stock finish. The finish was a lot like that high gloss finish that Remmy and Browning use. Pretty tough, too, if you didn't mind the high gloss.

Haven't you ever told a sheep herder to get the FLOCK out of town? Birds, and sheep travel that way and lions go with pride.
Choppped fine fibreglass, use to come in a package with Acra glass until they came out with premixed gel.
