from what i've read elsewhere (the press release on these just went out yesterday btw) there will be future caliber offerings and if you look close enough you'll see that these too have the barrel nut so switching calibers later wont be a issue. interesting bedding block system. i would like to see how the bottom of the action looks too. can anyone tell from the pics what action this one is copied from?

Obviously, Ruger has decided to compete with the low end market. I will be interested to see how this new model performs. The action appears to be rather rigid (assuming it's steel), and with bedding blocks and a barrel nut system, the rifle could be a real shooter. Interesting that this rifle doesn't take Ruger rings- it comes with Weaver type bases. Ruger describes the detachable 4 round magazine as a rotary magazine, sort of a Ruger trademark.

Those of us who are firearms savy and enthusiests, tend to forget the vast majority of the buying public is satisfied if their rifles go BOOM when they pull the trigger. And are very brand loyal with biases that are unfounded or based on something they were told by a suposed authority. They will buy based on the NAME. This Ruger will sell! to a large cross section of the buying public. I admit a preference to Ruger, but am not likely to buy one. Simply because I am more than pleased ith My Savage. Every one builds a turkey once in a while(REM 710etc) but follow the money and it sorts them out.

Have I missed something? What's wrong with Ruger coming out with an entry level rifle priced for the common man? The evaluation in the 2nd post certainly heaped praise on it. I like a high polish bluing job and nicely figured walnut stock as well as the next guy but, at the end of the day, it's how it shoots that counts.

If theey make it as good as the Savage they will be all right. If they make it as bad as the Remington (sorry Bill) 770 well, not so good. I don't mnd the cheaper guns but there is one item i wish they would make better, the plastic triggerguards have got to go. They break way too easy and when they do they can be dangerous. I have seen two now that broke and when they did they bent in and set off the gun. Admittedly the owners should have had the safety on but it's a GUARD it should be stout!
