I got 4 new rifles this morning. If I can get to the bank before noon tomarrow I might be able to get a few more.
I picked up a couple of rem 700's One in 223 and one in 22-250. The 22-250 is a heavy barrel without sights or scope and mounts. The 223 is regular coontour barrel with the reciever highly engraved and the remington model 700 in double stamp like lettering. I had not seen this before. Also the barrel has the rep stamp on the right side and I can;t find the barrel date code on the barrel. Where could the barrel stamp be? that is the main question I have. The heavy barrel 22-250 has CO so i take it is 1977 march made.
The other find was a winchester model 52c copy made in Japan. It seems once you find something others seem to find you. Now we have a winchester copy and a browning copy.
The fourth one is a 541THB target heavy barrel. It has a couple of little scratches in the pistol grip of the stock. It wears a redfield tracker 4 power scope. All of these guns were near 100% without boxes. The 541 has 2 mags a 5 1nd 10 shot but they are plastic.
Needless to say this has put a damper on my black friday Christmas spending.
Questions: do I have to remove the stock to get the barrel date code on the .223:
The 22-250 has a four poitned star around the rep stamp does that mean anything?
The 541 has BO 72 on the data code so feb 1977 but what does the 72 stand for. I take it one of the numbers is the accual gunsmith who gave birth to it.
Pics soon but i am going to hunt this afternoon.

There was a belguim browning superposed in 12 guage with no saltwood, an Annie model 54 and a rem 40x in the mix. There were also a suhl 150 with what seemed to be a tuner. I need to get a loan from the bank.
So many nice rifles, I accually went over to look at reloading equipment and never even looked on the bench.

You have some fine rifles there! When I was going to BR50 Rimfire matches the Win 52's Annie 54, 4oX and Shul 150's were all top competetors. Any one of them is a winner with the right man behind it.
And the 541 THB is one rifel I've always wanted.

For this info you need to check out the Remington collectors site, I know blackpowder x and that's about it.

As far as the barrel codes go I only know what 2 Moons said myself. Never really got into what all the codes go for. Heck here is a good way to teach us for once. I know one stamp is for the person that put the barrel on and inspected it. One is for the date code which I find is not there sometimes. And the rest I do no know for sure what they are. You find them more often on the older guns than on the newer ones. You picked up a lot of nice guns. A lot of which are on my bucket list. I have the 541T HB and love that gun. I want one of the 52 Sporter's I have or had the rest. The one sounds like a 700 BDL Varmint and if so is a great gun if the gun is in really decent shape.

The 700 .223 that is engraved is called an Embellished model.
From a friend on another board. It is factory. Mine is like yours, but on a 7mm ultra mag. I believe Remington only did this particular engraving for a year or two, around 1996, and they called it "fine line engraving". I've seen it on several Remington rifles and shotguns of various models.
The 22-250 is a varmint model it appears unfired and there are no lines or screw wear so I don't think it has ever worn a scope. Kind or hard to shoot a rifle without sights if it has not worn a scope.
The win 52c we now have the winchester and browning model 52c copies. The 541THB is going to get a scope upgrade.

Forgot about the engraved 700. Remington called it the 700 BDL Enhanced. I have one. The box's label end also says that. Remington came out with it to compete with the Browning Medallion. Didn't fare so well as they dropped it not long after. Mine has been blueprinted and plated and looks almost like it is S.S. but isn't. It has a S.S. Hart barrel, McMillian stock, and is in .300 RUM. Really great shooting gun except for the recoil. I keep saying I'm going to get a muzzle break put on it but haven't. It was built by Bob Brackney who used to write for Rifle Magazine for a dentist in Colorado who also didn't like the recoil and sold it. I picked it up cheap as no one else liked the recoil either. ;D Probably a $2500 custom build but some people look at the .300 RUM and back away fast. It weigh's about 9.5 lbs and I can shoot about 20 rounds off the bench before the recoil gets to be too much. I have a 6.5X20X50 Nikon UCC on my 541T HB and at 100 yds I have shot a 5 shot group in a 25 MPH crosswind that was 1/2H by 3/4" wide. I was using Wolf Match ammo in it. One thing I found and that was it had so much build up in the barrel that it just did not shoot well. Most people very seldom clean the barrels on their .22's. I scrubbed it out good and then took a box of the Wolf Match and shot it thru the gun and then shot that group. It was a very happy barrel after that. I read about this on Rimfire Central. Never shoot different kinds of ammo through a rimfire without cleaning between brands. Always shoot between 40 and 50 rounds of a new brand of ammo before going for its best group. It works believe me. Its also the gun that I used to shoot prairie dogs at 400 yds with. I have been trying to find a 20 MOA base for it to give it more range as the scope does not have enough dial up for past that.

I got paid and went back.
I picked up a 513 rem and two more rem BDL's this time in 30-06 and 243.
SO now i have rem 700's in 222 223 243 22-250 and 30-06. Browning a-bolt medialions in 308 30-06 and 22 mag. These model 700 bdl's are sure pretty and she gave me 50 off on one since it had two little scratches on the trigger guard other than that they are all 95% or better. The 243 had a redfield gold five star 2-7 scope on it also.
If i get enough cash up i will go again. It seems that the 541 S models were gifted to his relatives. I searched and searched. The annie is stil around, the sulh 150 is gone and so is the non salt wood superposed.
After the holidays i will post bnew pic's. The browning and winchester model 52c copies are not identical. The is an extra screw in the forearm of the winchester. I figured they were identical.
I need a new safe or I need to invests in a couple of sets of warne quick detachable rings as a safe that they say hole 48 long guns holds 27 with scopes.

I might have to wait to go back till after christmas. Like i said I went to look at reloading equipment and I still have not even realy looked at it. I did peak and their is some big gold shotgun reloading setup. It looked expensive. There are so many 257 roberts rifles left (Thinking about a couple) and a a-bolt mirco 22 hornet. I have yet to shoot the 541 or the 22-250. The 223 looks to be a keeper as at 50 yards open sights it groups well with tula 223 cheap ammo from the machine gun shoot. I got some reloads worked up for my contender so I think they will do better that the tula.

Geez JM! Did you hit the lottery or something? It must be nice being able to buy all that stuff at the same time. If i could have talked dad into getting into class III NFA items in the late 1970's and early 1980's I could put both of my kids in college in a few years. If i hit the lottery lets just say the items i would purchase would not be really Hunting firearms. I really liked the full auto, surpressed, UZI short barreled rifle i shot at the machine gun shoot this year. I am not much of a black rifle fan but that UZI was so fun and shot so well that I got the ITCH and at some time I am going to scratch it. I sold my old van, I am working 10 hours a day 6 days a week. I also have been involved with a very picky (and very rich) homeowner who wants his house made in the 1940's to work like a condo in Hollywood. I have installed a gate with intercom and electric opener, 12 HD video cameras, a security system, whole house audio, home theather, wireless internet, and a few other items i told him I would not tell anyone about. Plus i got a little money from my father who told me to invest it into something that would increase in value more than 1% ANNUALLY. I almost took out a loan from my bank to go back to the lady. He said i could put it in the stock market, in the bank, or invest in something i knew about. (I picked the last option but I did purchase some dunkin doughnuts stock at around 25 bucks a share also) I got 4 rem 700 BDL's the winchester 52c the rem 513t and the rem 541 THB and have less (a few hundered) than 3 grand in the bunch. With the crap that remington is putting out as of late I believe that my investment is good. I do not think that BDL's are being made anymore also. Checking gunbroker for BDL's that sold lately I have done very well in investing the money. Bill spends more money on reworking one of his rifles than i bought all 7 for. I think i need to get up to gunsmoke and let twomoons have a crack at a few of them I am not quite satisfied with.

Sadly enough your right but I usually find a couple to get rid of that will pay the cost of the work. The good part is I usually don't have much into the ones I get rid of and come out enough ahead to get by fairly reasonable.
