so my 2003 Expedition with 140,000+ miles on it is starting to have some transmission slipping. i don't drive it much as my wife uses it to shuttle kids to and from school mostly. i get into it last weekend to go out to the country and i notice it is slipping pretty good. ask the wife about it and she doesn't know a thing. so i plan on taking by somewhere to get looked at earlier this week and go to start it and the thing would start but not run. just like that the fuel pump went out so i get the fuel pump done, and while it's in there i have them do the inductive engine cleaning that really cleans off the valves, pistons and cylinder heads. after all i plan on driving it a few more years. anyway while it's in there we notice that the brake pads are worn down to nothing and were starting to grind up the rotors so i finaly get out of there with new fuel pump, cleaned engine fuel system, new rotors and brake pads on the front and now i finaly have it at the transmission place to have the tranny rebuilt. i feel so raped right about now.

gas prices didn't bother me much because the truck had been paid off for some time now, but after sinking that much into it, it's almost like buying a used truck. but at least my truck now has a new tranny and fuel pump, can't say that for any used truck i might go out and buy. all of the work is going to set me back about 3,200.00

I think it's always best to get rid of a vehicle shortly after 100k. Case in point That being said though, once you get the major things like the transmission, pumps, and it's 3rd set of tires --- you're normally good to go.

I had a 2000 Expedition. 5.4 Liter engine. Loved the truck except for a couple small things. #1 was the Air ride suspension. You just never knew for sure where it was going. Wasn't anything solid feeling there at all. #2 was the ignition coils. Seems Ford put separate coils on each cylinder. Their covered with rubber boots. After enough heat they crack and leak. When they leak the coils go out. This happened when I went back down to Nebraska 3 years ago. I pulled into the Ford dealership to find out what was the really bad miss was from. Seems it was over $2000 to fix it all. When they told me that I said No its not. If I'm going to spend that much money I'm taking home that vehicle over there. When I left it was with a 2008 Super Crew. Thats how Bounce ended up with Sir William.

At 207,000 i had to go the tow new starter and replace EGR valve rout last week. 470.00 still beats a monthly payment.

I have not owned a car in the last 15 yrs that did not run over 200,000 miles. My 97 Chrysler has over 230,000 on it now. Yes I have put a litle maintence in it, but not over 3 car payments on a new one over the past 5 yrs including tires.
I am about to replace it, since it needs a set of tires, $500 and about $1000 in front end work. If it only had 180,000 on it I would fix it, but I think I got the goody out of it and am ready for a change.
Jim you should be good for another 50 K anyway. That Expedition is basically a F250 and should be good for 250-300K.
