My son was surfing the net last night and showed me a picture of Ruger's new .22 RF DA revolver. I think it was called the SP-101. It was stainless and, as I recall, he said it had an 8-shot cylinder. It looked to be the same size as the .38/.357 variants but it was hard to say for sure since the picture didn't show anything to compare it with. I'm surprised that Ruger has waited this long to come out with a DA .22. A nice looking gun!

I think that's the same Sp-101 frame that's been around for a long time- just a new chambering. Ruger lists it in 327 Federal, 38 Special, and 357 Magnum, too. It is odd that they haven't had a DA 22 RF before. . . Looks like a nice gun.

Big old front sight with fiber optic sight. Not what i would call a target sight. Other than that it looks cool.

I have one of those firesights on a 94 Winchester rifle. The sight never looked very durable to me- the fiber optic is held on the ramp by a pair of thin metal bands. I have to admit, mine has held up well for several years now (under a sight hood), and those firesights are REALLY visible in dim light. The one I have is not big- it's about the size of a typical bead rifle sight.

Has anyone got a chance to handle this yet?
I've got this single six that is throwing patterns instead of groups - thinking about swapping it for this gun or a Taurus.

Red have you ever tried to bench that single Six? The grip style of a single action just does not fit some peoples hands and are very sensitive to grip. I had a cheap Liberty Arms single six years ago that shot all over the place when I got it. But when I learned to hold it right, I could give my brother my rifle(and he's no slouch with a rifle) and I could out shoot him with the revolver. There is no substitute for practice.I have not shot my 22/45 in over a year, and would expect it to take 50 rounds before I got back in the groove.

When it comes to pistols, I find one takes a chance with each one he buys. Like if you buy 15 you are likely to have 4 to 6 keepers that you should never sell the rest are tradeing fotgher, maybe their not all that bad but not real keepers either. Yes sometimes they can be made to be keepers somehow with a new pair of grips or a trip to T/M's ect. What I have, I consider all keepers. The rest have found new homes. Most are Uberties by the way or H&R

Speaking of nice revolvers, I saw in last month's "AMERICAN RIFLEMAN" where Taurus has come out with a really neat looking and apparently hand-filling DA that comes with both .22LR and .22WMR cylinders. I wouldn't mind having one as I have always found Taurus handguns to be a very good value for the price and they usually shoot well too.

I hadn't shot my Model 18 S&W for close to 10 years and this summer was invited to a Mouse gun shoot. There were some pretty serious shooters there and all were shooting auto's from Mod 41's to tricked out Ruger .22 auto's. One was even shooting with a suppressor on it. I felt pretty good as all I did was load it up and go to shooting the match. I think I was in like 8th place out of about 30 shooters. That gun is still one of the best shooting .22's I have ever seen. After that match though I did buy a set of speed loaders for it. If I would of had those prior to the match I think I could of done better. All that said though I think one of the Taurus Trackers in .22LR/.22Mag would be fun. Same with the SP101 Ruger.

Red have you ever tried to bench that single Six? Yeah, off a bench it will shoot about 4" groups low and slightly left at 25 yards. I complained to Ruger about it when I sent it in for it's other screwups but they basically said it was in spec. Shooting it offhand at about 10 yards, there's no way I can hit a rabbit in the head. It really goes low and left and the group is about 4" or so then. If my Ruger Mark II would go bang in the winter, we wouldn't be having this discussion. When it decides to fire and cycle, it's more than accurate enough.
