I am working on a target Ruger 10-22 for a customer. I did a trigger job and added a stop and set the trigger at 3 pounds crisp. I got a GM 920 barrel and chambered it with my Springfield 22 reamer to S/A match specs. I then fit the barrel tight to the action with acraglass and torqued the v block screw into place. Since my customer is a lefty I had to inlet a L/H stock for the bigger barrel and then I glassed the whole barrel channel and free floated tha action, just opposite of a regular rifle. I then added a front screw to the barrel to snug the barrel down tight to the bedding front and rear. The breech block was ground for headspace and set to be optimal with Eley Match ammo. The scope base was glassed into place and we are putting on a BEC 4-16 sope with Weaver 4x4 rings. The front of the stock has a sling swivel dedicated to the harris bi-pod and we will be test firing it Friday. If it is as good as the last one I will expect under 1" at 100 yards with bulk ammo and under 3/4" with good target ammo. I'll try and post some pictures when I get it done.

That sounds like an interesting project, Twomoons. The bedding set up is different, should be interesting. If you started with an older 10/22 action that doesn't have the extended magazine release, put one on it- it's a tiny thing, cost wise, but the extended mag release is a definite improvement, especially in cold weather.

The 10-22 is like an empty canvas. Twomoons is a real artist. To bad that many I see are 1000 dollar cartoon art (No offense to Gary Larson). I bought my first one for 139 with scope and a box of shells at Kmart. I traded it last year for a mint marlin 39a. I need to get pic's of it and that browning sa-22 up for you all to see. Was the 10-22 originally a ruger target or just a modified 10-22. I thought the barrel on the original factory ruger target rifles fit into the receiver majorly differently than a regular 10-22. I believe the target model ruger the barrel screws into the receiver instead of V block screws. regular: target: Sounds like you splashed some paint on there for him. What did the job cost him in parts and labor. Dad and I are going to visit the CMP North store next Friday and trying to pick up a few of the rusty Kimber 82's if I don;t have to work on Friday. We are on 4- 10 hour days and I have a feeling that before next week it will be 6 10 hour days but a 3 day weekend this week. I might need some work done on the target ruger..... and hopefully a rusty 82g................

There is no place on the action for screws to go. The v block is where they all attach. This is the problem with bedding a 10-22 as the v block can not be bedded solid to the stock so it's hard to get a decent free float barrel. The other extreme is lie the old M52 Winchester and that is to bed the barrel solid. I always put on the extended mag release as part of the trigger and action job but that little part is now $18 extra! I will copy and up load the letter that went with the gun as it has prices on it. Price varies depending on what you want stock and barrel wise but my rechambered Green Mountain barrels are shooting under 1" at 100 yards, in fact I talked to a customer today and he shot an honest 1/2" 5 shot group from bench rest this weekend. I did sight in and do a little test on this one today and with Winchester bulk 333's at 92 yards (range was wet) I managed 1.4 inches shooting from the car window and 10 shots at 50 in .6.

I am going to pick up the target at dad's in the morning. it is accurate but not MOA. I think there is something with the heavy barreled factory guns that is different. I might have been thinking of the 10-22 mag. They had a steel reciever. Ever see one of these. www.magnumresearch.com/MagnumLite.aspI shot a nice grouping rusty Kimber at the range last weekend. With the peeps at 50 yards i grouped inside a dime. Not bad for a rusty kimber. 400 dollars and a little clean up time.

very interesting aproach on the bedding issue twomoons. hey jmarriott all the new ruger M77/22's now have the barrels threaded to the receiver and no more v-block. i thought they (ruger) were going to go the same way with the 10/22 as well if they haven't already done so.

The ruger target seems to b a v block. The extended mag release is a option i should look into. getting ready for the gun show this morning. I will snap a pic or the sa-22 and the marlin from 1956.
I will be looking for a bi-pod for the ruger today. I also might need to move the scope a little forward as i seem to be crawling the stock to see at 24 power.
