I think I am going to pull the trigger on a 5 th marlin 39a. I found a 1947 (Guy thinks it is a 1945) pic's look good. I am getting a % on what he would rate the wood and metal. It looks good in the pics. All screws seemed to be it top shape. I have not seen the bore or even asked. I am going to pay a little above what i normally give for them but some of mine have been very good deals.
I have yet to ask if the tube was alum aircraft or brass yet. The front sight hood is not correct but it is one it. (I have 2 extras)
A little travel. a little cash outlay And i will have a 39a third model first varation.

There's always a good reason to buy another gun.

Well it is a 1945. And it is still a third model third var. It has the Capitol "C" not the little "c" or the D. There were first model second vari made in 1945 also and they have the case hardened recievers. This one is blue. Since I based my aluminum tube and not the brass one and being a 1947 I know they had alum fube feeds. Then again if marlin had the parts onehand I bet they used them up. 50/50 on that or the alum tube got kinked up along the last 65 years. The finish looks to be stained and varnish so that is correct as the oil finish had not started rill the early 1950's.
