Well a while back I had a chance at a brand new Remington 700 Sendero in .300 RUM at a super cheap price. I had already bought a used Sendero for the build but it was one of the older matte blued guns and had seen a lot of use. I had also bought a brand new Sendero in 7MM Rem Mag but didn't want to use it to build on as I had paid full price for that one. So I sold them both. I ordered one of the great deal Sendero's first in 7MM Rem Mag to see if the deal would work and it did. I got that one at a 1/3rd the cost. So I then ordered the second one to build on as the sale of the two I had covered the cost of a new scope and the new 7MM Mag with money left over for the .300 Rum to build on. Well the deal fell through on that one and I have to start all over again.
My plan was to build one Big gun. It was going to be a wildcat .338 Edge which is the .300 RUM necked up and basically designed to run with a .338 Lapua but to do it cheaper due to the cost of brass and not having a need for custom actions and it is awesome for long range shooting. I am talking out past 1000 and past 1500 even. Nothing really for hunting but more for blasting steel as far as it can throw a Sierra 300 grain match king.
I spent the last week trying to figure out another approach that would not cost me 3 arms and 8 legs to build and which can run with the custom action guns. The Sendero would of been perfect as all it would of needed was a barrel although a 30" SS fluted barrel in its self would not be cheap and cost as much as a rifle to buy it alone and the chambering and blueprinting the action was run a pretty chunk in itself but to start with a basic action would of been a lot more.
Then I started doing some looking. Thought about a used Wby action but that was even more spendy and then looked at a Howa which could of been a good deal but I can find a used Remington action for the same money. And they would all have to be trued up and a number of aftermarket changes made which can be spendy.
GRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Then I found a deal. For the same money as buying a Howa or a Remington rifle to build on I can buy a Savage Target Action with the target Accura trigger that does not need anything done to it and will go down to 6oz if I remember right. It will be a right bolt left load, right eject single shot action. I can put it together myself and stock it myself. Don't need anything more than a single shot anyway and no one shoots those guns fast. ;D AND here is the good part. I can buy all three of the bolt faces and can make a switch barrel gun out of it. All I would need extra is the wrench for the barrel nut to change barrels and a stock and barrels. Stocky's has all I could ask for in the line of a stock. SO it looks like I'm on my way again. Just need to get the action ordered up and start picking up parts.
