The general consensus when talking about cheap bolt action rimfires is that Marlin has the better overall quality but Savage has the Accutrigger which would save you $100. Well now Marlin has the better overall quality AND an accutrigger of their own. I think it's going to take a big nick out of Savage when people hold both in their hands. By no means do I like these types of triggers - it's almost like a 2 stage military trigger. I'll still buy a Rifle Basix over what the factory offers. I did contact Rifle Basix and they have not yet been able to reseach whether their 917 trigger will fit on these new guns. The old 900 series is still on the website. One would think it will be out the door though. Good closeout deals on those could be comming our way this summer. www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/xt/XT22.asp

Since I grew up on military 2 stage I like the accutrigger. The one on my rifle is set at 2.4 pounds crisp and is excellent. Savage has always made an ugly but ACCURATE rifle. The best shooting 30-06 I ever handled was a Savage 110 in a Bell and Carlson stock. The savage barrel system is the best for accuracy surpassing even the Remington M700 and that's going some. Their triggers until the accutrigger were for s#!t but now that's changed. Ah the good old days when you could buy a M700 or a Winchester anything and have a GOOD trigger. I am currently working with a Savage M40 in 22 hornet and it has promise if I can work out the bugs in the extractor system.
