Although it looks tactical??? it's PRACTICAL! I got a new 22 and I thought I would post on it as they are new o n the market. No I haven't went black rifle but I needed a 22 for a specific job and the gun fits. I am now working in towns again and one of the night mans jobs is getting rid of strays and pests like skunks and possums. I use to carry a 10-22 with a plastic stock but had sold it and was shopping for a replacment. The gun would have to ride in the back of a dusty cruiser and would be used mostly at night and in close quarters but would have to be able to make consistant head shots up to say 30-40 yards. I had tried my target rifle but while it was accurate it was unhandy in the car and was impossible with one hand or when there wasn't enough light. The 10-22 with a red dot was fine but I still was thinking of a folding stock so I could manuver it in the car easier. (I don't get out of the car till AFTER the skunk is dead) Well I was orderig 10-22's for christmas and my distributor had a special on the Remington VTR. It has a 16" heavy barrel and a colapsible stock and the red dot dropped right on. At 25 yards with the 1" red dot if I cover the target the bullets center in 3/8" dead center and I would guess with a good scope the rifle will shoot even better. The pistol grip lets me use a flashlight with one hand and still point the gun and I have a laser I am going to put on for when I have to shoot under a bench or a car and nail a varmit. Yes the gun looks BLACK but the saving grace is it's SO UGLY I wont care if it gets scratched up. I'll know for sure how it works after this weekend. Attachments:

That 16 inch barrel and collapsable stock will make a nice truck gun.
Maybe a quad rail with light laser red dot and rocket launcher for them big city rats.

Best rat hunitng gun is a 54 M/L bar none, swats them right down. Normally in any type of hunting 22 I have no use for gimmicks but for it's intended use this might be all right. At least it has a better trigger than the last 10-22's I got in this one is 4 pounds and smooth with just a little creep. The last ruger was 8 pounds and gritty. The only reason I am thinking of a laser is for those odd shots where it's hard to sight in a conventional manner. I remember having to shoot a possum under a workbench and I remember taking down two wolves in a garage. The worst one we ever did was a 1/2 and 1/2 wolf / malmute that was dumped in town. It was running throough yards killing whatever it could catch. It would grab a small dog and just bite through the backbone, kill it and go on to the next yard. We ended up shooting it with #4 buck as it ran down the street headed for the school. It took 2 shots to finish it, down in back it kept going on the front legs and snapping and growling.
Of course i hear the deputies don't have those problems they have custom PR235/15 dog tires! Sorry D/D I had to!

Nothing like good old #4 buck. Most people like use 00 buck but not I. My coyote gun loves #4 but sometimes I start out with lead BB's on the first round. Then the #4. You can;t easily find BB's BBB's or #4 buck. I have KSE guns in indy and they keep me stocked up on it. They are a LEO friendly establishment and stock #4 buck. The BB's I got 7 boxes of at a garage sale with 10 geese decoys. pre non toxic shot hunter I am sure as it is old stuff.
Had a lady that told me she had a weird cat hanging around her garage. She said it was the ugliest cat ever. Possum it was. No wonder nobody ever came to claim it.
What is the over all length with the collapsing stock all the way in.?
I bet it is close to and MIN for a NFA item. Heck get a tax stamp and make yourself a Short barreled rifle out of it as i think 10 inches would be perfect for what you need and I bet you could put a better crown on that barrel than the good folks at remington. No front site needed with a red dot/small scope or laser.

A laser sight makes some sense for that application. You may be exempt, Twomoons, but, for many, check your local regs before getting a laser sight- they aren't legal for some game hunting in some states.

You'll get no grief from me - I've been saying the black guns should only be in LEO and military hands for years now ;D

any particular 22 ammo you like to use for dispatchung unwanted critters or since it is mostly head shots do you just look for what shoots most accurate?

Since it's close range and in close quarters I like whatever breaks up the best. Currently I am using 36 grain hollow points. The actual best caliber for this work is the little 17 Mach 2. The little bullet will fragment complletely on a bar of soap and the shards are too small to go through dry wall in just a few feet. At close range it just makes mince meat of small critters. If they come out with one of these in Mach 2 I may get one. BUT the Mach 2 isn't much good for bigger game. On a big possum or a coon it will go to pieces on the shoulder and not kill the animal. You have to have a lung or a clean head shot.

I shot a opposum square in the head last year with a 17hmr v-max at 10 yards. Then a shoulder shot for a followup. The thing ran into a hole like nothing was wrong with him
