Looking at a model 12 and it is old. Not serial number on barrel and I believe no model 12 designation. Octagon barrel but I did not have a tape measure to see if it is a 22 or 24 inch. tang sight. I only saw it for a short time and let my poker face win over the man i want it face.
How do I find out if it is a model 12 c or a model 12 a or since it was very pretty a d e or f model without a serial number or even a model designation on the barrel?
I do know it is not a model 12 b as it was short long and long rifle.
Is this item from the same guy who designed the model 12 winchester shotgun?
Price vary from nothing to near 1200 on these guns and it has the tang sight which makes me think it is a 12-c but i guess a 12 a could have had the sight installed later.

perfect thanks dd just what i was looking for. I think it is a 12 c but the tape measure is needed to be sure. It is near 99 % and does not look like it has been refinished.
This would make a nice little addition to the collection.

I did not buy the older model 12 as I could not come to a price that I and the seller could agree on. I think I was asking to little and he to much but he had a few more of them and I think i got one that I got the better half of the deal on but it is just a round barrel model 12-a and with the AP stamp on the barrel it is a 1923 version. It is in very good condition for a 87 year old rifle metal and wood 90% and nice bore and visible grooves.
The 12-c was in much better shape about 100% and was older but the guy must know more about firearm than he seemed to in emails and on the phone. I really wanted the 12-c but it was not in the cards. The model 12 a will have to do for now..
It has the lyman target tang sight with in insert. Most of the insert have been misplaced.
I do need a rear sight for it if anyone has one lying around in a parts box somewhere. Nurich is out and My call to a winchester parts man came up blank on the one I need, He did have the 121 sight,

Interesting thread. My Dad has one of those, I think a 12 C in 22 WRF. His is in nice shape, but, it has a scope on it- one of the old 3/4 inch tube 22 scopes in a Weaver N mount. Probably destroys any collector value, but he'd never sell it, anyway.

Until i started playing with it I did not know that the tube moves with the pump action.
Kinda cool. It is a nice little gun bore looks good I need to see how she shoots. I think it is trade bait in a future deal. Maybe a flat out sell if I can get a good price.
I will have some pic's soon. I believe that 12 c is in 22 remington not WRF if so she has some real money on collectors table .

My dad had one of the old Winchester .22 (shorts, long, and LRs) pumps. I don't recall now whether it was the model 61 or 62 - it was the one that had an external hammer and the top of the receiver broke open (kind of like on the M94). I think he bought it new before WW2. It was in near mint condition. I used to squirrel hunt with it when I was kid and it accounted for goodly number of them too. He got a wild hair some time back in the 60's and traded it off for something else. I remember at the time trying to talk him out of getting rid of it but he wouldn't listen. If I had had the money I would gladly have given the trade-in allowance for it but alas, I was in school at the time and no part-time job. I wish he had kept it. I am sure it would be valuable now, particularly considering its condition. I guess I shouldn't complain though considering all the guns I have traded off in a frenzy over the years and now wish more than anything that I had them back.
