I had Sunday off this week and had planned on doing my get ready for winter work that I hadn't finished yet.
About 8:00AM I receive a call from one of the guys I work with and he wants to go shooting. Oh hell I don't have anything loaded up to shoot as I had shot it all up the last time he called. ;D Except for my .223 and .308 which I had been shooting all summer and was wanting to get my ammo built up for the both of them.
Well Matt say's "Bring your Muzzleloader that I told you I wanted to shoot" ;D Well he has wanted to get me in that position for a long time and finally it was easier to dig and find my gear I needed than it was to reload up a bunch of rounds. So down to the basement to dig I went. Dig and dig and dig and by the time Matt gets there I have pretty much found everything I needed. Even had to pop up the pop up camper and dig in there as I had moved a lot of stuff with it hmm lets see 3 years ago and had not dug it out as yet. Hmm I need to get a life I think or get rid of some of this stuff.
We headed out to what is called Beretta Road and had a heck of a time finding it. They had changed the name on the entrance road
When we finally found it, it was a case of WTF For the first mile it was wall to wall people with no organization at all. Makes you wonder how they keep from killing each other. Go up and check your targets? Oh hell ya. Do they stop shooting? Oh hell no. Thats ok we won't hit you.
So we drove back into the hills a bit further past all the people and cross a couple creeks and came to an area there was only a couple people shooting at and at least they were shooting in different directions rather than at each other.
We had Matt's 8 and 10 year old kids with us and they wanted to shoot .22's so we got them set up and shooting finally with targets and a swinging gong so they were having fun. Woops keep that barrel down range. ;D Hmm they forget that quickly. Finally we get everything going in the same direction so I get out my .58 Cal and load it up. Hmm been 4 years since I got it out last. Forgot how good it feels.
Well when I fired it off Matt made a comment, "Your grinning from ear to ear ;D now aren't you glad I made you bring it.
Thought about it for a quick second and said Yes I am.
Well we spent the better part of the day shooting and lots of old memories came back. Hitting blue rocks at 100 yds was a breeze and with the glasses I had bought 2 years ago set up with the good spot right where your eye looks when your shooting I could even see the sights (I had been having trouble with that the last time I had shot the gun) Kind of took the fun out of shooting a gun with iron sights when I could not see them clearly.
Matt finally gave my gun a new name which all I had ever called it was the .58. Its new name is Rolling Thunder. ;D We were shooting in a Canyon with huge rock walls going up to the front and back of us. Every time I fired that gun off it just echoed up and down that canyon. When I did that everyone there stopped to look and see just "What the hell is he shooting??"
Took all evening for that grin to go away. ;D Matter of fact its still there.
