Last year I had wanted to use my .22 Hornet (Handi-Rifle) barrel for squirrel hunting. I searched all the loading manuals and other sources for a load combination that would be suitable for squirrels. After trying several combinations I settled on 3 gr. of Unique behind a Beartooth 45 gr. gas-checked lead round nose bullet. I was hoping for something that would emulate the performance and velocity of a high-speed .22 LR but be reloadable. Well I finally got to try it out and it worked absolutely great on squirrels, not tearing up the meat at all - just like a .22 LR solid point. The load is very accurate too, at least out of my gun. I just love it when a plan comes together.

Nice, Dovehunter! I think some reloading projects like that are the reason some get into reloading.

Good to hear that's working for you! I really enjoy my Handi-rifle/Hornet. Looks like it will be sometime nest year before I have time to do much more with mine.

I've worked with the Hornet, years ago, but I haven't had one for a long time. I kinda miss that cartridge- it was fun to load for.

Next contender barrel for sure here. Just need to fine a good price on one. I passed a good deal on a 17k-hornet barrel before because I did not reload at the time.
