I had a ruger 10-22 with a tasco scope. You guys have seen it my teenage ruger, I figured I have 119 in the gun and 20 or so in the scope and a bit in rings. I also had a set of swivels and a Ducks unlimited sling from a garage sale on it. Now that is still 1980's money. I figured it's worth at 250 or so since it was basically new. I could not get that out of it since there were millions made. A guy had a 1954 marlin 39a (he thought it was a 1957) for sale for 400. I sent him a picture of my ruger 10-22 as he said trade for he ask me my value on the ruger and I said 250. He said the ruger and 100 and I will make the trade. Now I did have 100 miles round trip in gas but -I came home with one mint 1957 39A 3rd Model 3rd Variation and I think I have about 250 invested. pictures will be posted this week. No camera batteries. That makes 4 total marlin 39a two mounties and two 39a one each from the 1950 and 1980s. I guess I have marlinitis. Got to find a palomino. But I would make this trade every day if I could find it. Man being employed is much nicer that this time last year,.

Walmart sells them new around here for $197. A scope and tax and you're out the door for about $250.
I know the quality was better back then though and one in "as new" condition with a 1980's scope probably would fetch $250 for someone specifically looking for the rifle with the metal instead of plastic. $250 might be a little high...the scope and mount is most likely a freebie unless they're something special.

Like I said it would have been a long time to get 250 out of it in a direct sale if ever. There are just to many of them made to be collectable and any gun is never wroth more than what a new one goes for. So 200 tops.
Now the marlin 39as (The safety version with the plastic looking wood) still sells around her for about 500 new. since this one was built in 1954 and in great shape. (2 screws that hold on a peep site on the side are missing) and They have a following like the savage 99. I do think it is a premium 22 rifle.
I now need a marlin 39 TDS, a century limited, 39 d, and a 39 carbine that ought to round out the herd.
The new safe arrived at dads yesterday,
