With the 100 birthday of the 1911 coming up do you think it is time to get one for yourself.
I sold off the glock for safe money and won't be shooting the rand since it is in mint shape so i need a large carry gun for winter fall and love the 1911.
I figure I will buy one next year. Shot a Springfield loaded friday and it was a good overall gun for the money. Just wondering what you all had for 1911's for a guy who like them just never had one before.
I might hold out for a colt special edition since they will make them. But most likely they will be old school 1911 like the original. I might like one with a few more bells and whistles like a race guns for steel plates which I shot for the first time friday night also. It was fun but i shot poorly as it got dark and the borrowed gun i used had a dark blued front sight i could not pick up well. Steel plates are fun but some of those guys are just much better than I at hitting them.

There's a ton of them being made now - the 1911 seems more popular than ever. I'm not from the school of "add on everything" to a 1911- the pistol seems to work pretty well for me in it's basic configuration. The one exception to that is the GI sights- they suck, bigtime! The 1911 I have was made by Colt for the Argentines, as part of a 1927 police and military contract. I did some tightening up on the pistol, match bushing, etc, and a trigger job and match trigger. I haven't changed the safety, or added a beavertail grip safety, or any of that- the originals seem ok to me. The one thing you'd notice on my 1911 would be the Bomar rear sight, and an actual front post you can see. Some modifications I don''t even understand- the full length guide rods, for example. I've never known a 1911 recoil spring to bind, so I don't know why you'd have to 'fix' that. As far as I can tell, all the full length guide rod does is make the pistol harder to disassemble, and make one hand cocking on a table, etc, impossible. My .02$

I know nothing about the 1911.
Has anyone paid attention to prices this fall? Stores have to know people are going to wait for 2011 to buy because every single maker is going to make a anniversary gun and might be making the standard ones on sale. On the other hand, pistols are outselling long guns 5:1 so demand may be high for them anyway...

Yeah the High point pistols are selling like hot cakes. I could go my whole life without one and feel fine about it.
The crazy buying that started with the new POTUS is over. People are not buying stuff even for deer season. I asked mike at crackshot (my local gun pusher) if he needed any extra counter workers this fall and he said NO. He has normally asked me if I wanted any part time work. He said he is down 33% over 2007 in sales. He said the POTUS rocketed sale in 2008/2009 and the 2006/2007 pistol cartridge deer rules changed helped the long gun sale. He said the glocks/high point/bersa stuff still sold now along with rossi single barrel shotgun/rifle combos for youth but everyone else is not buying stuff.
He always sells more pistol than long guns. He says more people come in to sell off than buy. Hard times In Anderson IN. \
I got my eye out for one. I also want a smith model 41 and older model with some class to it.

Mine is a Llama that I bought back in the late 60s and is exactly the same as it was when it came out of the box except that I have added a trigger shoe. Between my son and I we've shot thousands of my reloads through it with nary a problem. It does, however, have a strong preference for round nosed bullets. I have always said I would upgrade the sights one day but have never gotten around to it and, truth be known, I probably never will.
