Lucky it was in a single shot rifle. I had on safety sunglasses and a little powder flash and a small amount of ouch on top right knuckle. I think i will just toss the 20 rounds I have left and get some blaziers next time. Stupid dirty rem rimfire ammo. Made me worry about my stevens model 15. I was sighting it in for a 15 foot head shot open sights on fox and coyotes for trapping. switched to some of the peters standard velocity ammo for the rest of the sighting in . I had shot about 30 rounds with no problems and about 3 in the stevens when it happened. The rest were in my old ruger for tree rat hunting sight in.

Are you sure you don't have a bit of a headspace problem???

I had similar results a while back with a milk carton of Federals: a multitude of longitudinal case splits, duds, & lots of burnt powder being thrown back in my face, etc. but no head separations. I also had problems with that Wolf ammo Bill thinks so highly of. I've never had any problems with Remington Golden Bullets - they had always been my standby - but I think I am going to start switching over to Blazers as they have been so clean burning and the accuracy has been phenomenal in the guns in which I have tried them thus far. They are a lot cheaper too.

Bill, I bought that stevens model 15 about 1982 ( in the high school parking lot for 15 dollars) and I have used it mainly as a trapping gun as it is small and light. It has never had anything like this happen as a matter of fact this is the only problem I have ever had with a 22 shell. (Other than a ftf or fte) Dovehunter,I have no idea where or how old those golden were. Lots of my 22 ammo comes from dad's flea market trips over the years. He might buy a full shoe box of 22's because there is a dog bone box or two in the shoe box. The rest we just shoot up except the win wildcats that we check for the lot numbers of the recall first. WE have two full bricks of the recalled wildcats mark not for use. Maybye someday they will be rare rounds. If i pull out my wallet i get mini mags or winchester xperts as my handgun like them well. I sighted in the stevens with the peters stand vel load and had no further problems with it. I don't think it was a headspace problem the guns been shooting fine since i got it and it is most likely a pre 1930's rifle. SO it been shooting fine for at least 80 years. How would one check the headspace on a 22 rifle. I have seen it done on savages when changing barrel and ar-15 with the go and no go things. Since the first 2 went off without a hitch and the third round did this then the other 5 shots of the peters were fine should I even check the headspace? ?

Probably would not worry about it unless it becomes a constant.

Send it into Remington and see if they'll give you more ;D Good idea. rem's return policy has been less than stellar lately. Look at all the 597 17 HMR rifles and ammo you got to send back for less than you paid for a return of a rebate for rem products. A bad move by rem.

Request coupons for shotgun shells or centerfire rounds.
Forget about their rimfire line...
