Traditions 50cal - I've had my eyes on this baby for at least 10 years but had never made it a priority. I'm picking this up tomorrow evening. This would be the 1st used gun I've ever bought but I'm told it's in good working order except it doesn't have the factory ramrod. $60

does it have adjustable sights, time for some lock-tite. 60 dollars it is a good deal. I see them about 90 days after late season here in Indiana at the pawn shops for around 100 bills all the time.
Just lidding, still trying to track down the guy who bought my dad's friend Lyman muzzleloader. I see him every once in a while but always forget to ask him. it was real fancy job with extra care put into things. I want it because Bill used to take it deer hunting when I was a kid over his sweet 16 browning shotgun. Must have been a good muzzy.
Stuff still smells like rotten eggs to me a simple 1960's kid who watched to many cowboy shows growing up. Must be where i got my lever action addiction.

It has "primative adjustable rear sights". I'm not 100% how it's adjusted but it will be easy to figure out once I look at it.
This is a much better backup than my 1858. The guy who's selling it said he missed a deer with his rifle and then shot and killed it with this trapper pistol at 50 yards. I'm not sure that's something I'd do as it only recommends I think 50 grains of powder. Might be ok with a big hollow point conical with 50-60 grains.
Crossing my fingers I get drawn for my muzzleloader hunt

If it can hit a deer in the head at 10 feet then I'll be more than satisfied

50 grs is a powerfull pistol Red and you will of corse put in 65grs and that will kill deer past 80 yds. and your allways tracking deer anyways or expect too. lol. I would not mess with any hollow point shit.

I've killed deer with a round ball and 80 grains of powder and it did ok...it got the job done... My experience is that a roundball does not make 2 holes most of the time and now I'd be cutting the velocity quite a bit.
I've killed deer with those Great Plains bullets. Those things from a rifle and 90 grains of powder just knock the snot of deer. I'd feel more comfortable using those to actually take a deer outright with a reduced load.
The perfect thing would probably be a Buffalo Ballet...but that company went under a few years ago.

Well everything looks pretty good except the bolster screw. The head's all stripped and won't come out. I'll have to soak it in wd-40 and get it in a vise. I might have to take a file and open the slot up to fit a larger screwdriver.
Other than that, just a few nicks and a slightly rusted barrel. It's in good shape though.

WD-40 sucks as a penetrating oil. There is a lot better stuff out there for that.

Well it's really F'd now; it's not going to come out ;D
I guess I'll just have to clean it using only the nipple hole. I've never done that before so I hope it cleans ok.
Edit: I did a bit of research and it looks like it will be just as clean whether you take that screw out or not. It seems this problem is pretty common.
