How would one tell the difference between a bright nickel model and a hard chrome model.
It is a 29-3 6 inch I never seen anything from smith about hard chrome. I see bright nickel finish.
I think it is bright nickel finish but the hand written piece of paper that had it as chrome but not as hard chrome.

I don't know how to tell whether it's nickel or chrome. BTW, have you ever seen a firearm finish described as 'soft chrome'? I haven't. I never did figure out why the sometimes say 'chrome' and sometimes 'hard chrome'- I think they are the same thing.

S&W never did make a gun finished in "Hard Chrome" If it is its probably not factory and if your looking at it as a collector gun its not. If its a bright nickle finish then its correct and the seller does not know what he has or does not know anything about the gun. Look at the stampings on the action and barrel and if their kind of blurred then its been refinished and is not worth anywhere close to what a good collector gun is.

I will be looking at it again tonight. I need to measure the barrel and find out if it is a 6 or 6.5 inch model. Ir appears to be a 1975/1976 era model (in the rage after dirty harry's make my day) and it is pristine. If it is the bright nickel which i think it is since the hammer and trigger are still harden steel and the numbers look sharp. It should make a near perfect companion piece to my 1894 44 mag rifle. I rifle and pistol combo with the same ammo just like the cowboys.
I will have a bunch of Colt revolver questions coming up and of course pictures of the new collection.
Some have to go to buy a safe.

I might have to look at selling the glock off to fund the purchase of the safe also. We have a local company called Johnson safe and they are top notch but will cost at least 1600 or more. I should be able to get 500 out of the glock with holster and box ect.

29-3 would either be nickle or non stock. Big deduction for non stock finish.
