Bounce stopped over the other day to congratulate me on having 20 minutes of free time during the weekend, so he brouoght me another all day project!
The gun is a Steven's M15 22 single shot rifle, the basic entry level single shot from about 1920 to 1950. It originaly cost from $7.50 in the 20's to as much as $20 in the 50's. It doesn't work, but the bore is good and I WAN"T IT FOR MY GRAND KIDS PLEASE ! Well who can resist a line like that so today I spent the day rebuilding a Stevens.
First the combination spring, bolt stop and sear is missing about 1/2 the sear portion. So we cover the spring section with heat paste and weld on a new sear, file it to shape and stone it and harden it. In no time at all or 2 hours to be precise the sear/bolt stop is functional. Did I mention the stock bolt was frozen in the underlu, No, well there is nothing Kroil won't budge.
Now the gun keeps shedding the bolt when cocked, of course the firing pin/ ejector is broke in half. Luckily I don't have one on hand and GPC is out of stock so A quick trip to the milling machine with some Brownell's spring stock and VIOLA a new firing pin and ejector in only an hours machine time. Now we true up the stock bolt and screw everything together and... wait there's no butt plate! Well into the junk drawer and lo and behold there is a but plate that is only an inch too big. Well off to the disk sander and in no time at all (all jobs here take NO TIME AT ALL) the gun has a butt plate. so in only 4 1/2 hours Bounce now has a straight shootin' sweet triggered classic all steel single shot for THE GRANDKIDS.
Yeah right it will probably go back in the barn where it came from. But thanks to Bill I have adjusted my work rates and so at $75.00 an hour Bounce's 22 is now worth over $300 dollars? you think?
Duck walks into a bar and asks for a beer. The bartender says," put it on your bill"? The duck says, " no it'll just fall off, leave it on the bar".
