I'd normally have about 30 or so killed by now but I've only gone once back in May and didn't see anything. I just haven't cared...
When the peak season hits early august through october, I'll get out there.

I normally do not go till after the first good frost. My pistol permit is getting put in this coming friday as it expired when I was off work. The new one is a lifetime permit so it is going to cost 125 dollars to purchase my freedom. they said about 6 to 8 week wait also. I have the new mountie to break in on tree rats, the 39a and the bl-22. so those three rifles will keep me busy for a little while till the pistols come out.

is that permit to own? or to carry? and do you need one even if you're huntig with one not CCW? i can't think of anything more undesireable to do right now than to truck through the woods in this mid to upper 90's temps and high humidity. but as soon as sept rolls around and you get that mid 60's temps in the morning it's another strory.

The evenings are worthless this time of year. The squirrels in the back yard may move around but they have a lot more open space which makes it more breathable. The squirrels in the woods don't move until right before dark...sometimes after dark.
This time of year you have to get there right at first light and hunt the first 2-3 hours until it either gets too hot for them to move or too windy to see them. They'll be be spread out on walnuts now. If there's no walnuts, you might as well go to the hickories which aren't quite ready cause they're no way you're going to narrow down the thousands of green acorns they're forced to eat.
Oh yeah, they love field corn ;D

I can't seem to get worked up to go out into the woods with all the ticks, mosquitoes, other bugs, snakes, poison ivy, etc. this time of year. I, like jmarriott, prefer to wait until cooler weather (and after dove season). I have however live-trapped 9 so far this summer to relocate about 5 miles up the road. The damn things eat too much of my wife's VERY EXPENSIVE wild bird food.

I need to get my licensee to carry handgun.
At the range (public) i had my two 22 handguns in the van waiting for a slot at the 25 yard range to open up and was shooting the 39a at the 50 yard range when a county sheriff showed up and asked everyone on the range to show there LTCH that was shooting pistols. I of course just packed up the rifle and drove away glad I did not have them out yet, It has always been a sticky point of the indiana handgun law that you need to have the permit to shoot them off your land or even have it in the trunk of the car. I had my expired one in the wallet and that might have got me a verbal assault on Indiana law. It is a very gray area in Indiana law about what you can and cannot do without the permit. Better to pay for the lifetime permit and never worry again. A legal bribe to the local sheriff office (basically a widows and orphans fund donation) and 75 dollars to the state police to issue the permit. Since the sheriff is up for election this fall he is asking to meet in person everyone who applies. He shakes the hand and signs the application after your record is pulled right in front of you after the handshake, DD and twommons might have had to do things such as this as part of their roll as men in blue.
The land with the woods belongs to my uncle the farmland my mom so it is legal on the tilled land for me to carry the handgun as my name is on the property but I can't legally go into the woods since my name is not on the property. Weird stuff. I can take a handgun to the local gun store for repair or such but if I was to stop for gas or milk on the way or back I technically break the law also. I think I can go thru a mc'donnalds drive thru for coffee but to stop at a starbucks even with the gun in the trucnk of the car is also technically illegal. Weird stuff and much more expensive to fight a illegal handgun possession charge than to pay off the local sheriff to get legal. We can even open carry in Indiana with the LTCH. I used to get some dirty looks with my long hair walking into the local gas station with my 357 on my hip. Much easier in the fall with a jacket over it,
