I went to my local gun pusher in Anderson Indiana.
I asked for large magnum pistol primers and he just said he saw none getting in any anytime soon. I did pick up a pound of lil gun for 21.99 Then I saw a bull eye on a stock that did not have the marshield finish on it and asked to see the 1894 rifle on the rack. He said it was not an 1894 but a model 39a mountie. I think he saw my eyes light up a bit.
It is near prefect, no front sight hood as so many are missing them. 18 prefix serial number even color walnut but nothing real fancy on the grain. Pre safety from 1982 with a blue trigger instead of the gold one. A screw messed up on the barrel band but the blue was great and not a single bit or rust or flaking.
I looked at the tag and it said 438.00. I said I will go 400 and tax and he said no but I will go 420 with tax. I said OK. Hey I knew the deal was not that bad and he has to make a living so I did the paper work and went to my bank and withdrew 450 from savings and came back and the 4473 form was ready and I was out the door.
I know I like my lever action rifles and this one is a nice one. With the new ones made costing 538 plus tax i will buy a mountie like this one at 400 everyday if I could afford them. Not as good a deal as the 1958 model for 250 I got for dad this spring at the pawn shop but these mounties are gaining a cult following and I could turn it at the gun show or gun broker for 550 600 easy enough. I won't do that anymore as I am only a buyer or maybe a trader now not a seller.
We are still working on the browning deal but it seems to old man want to keep the model 52 browning sporter and a buck mark pistol and the model 52 was the gem in the bunch. This week dad and I will make him an offer on them that is fair but more on our side since the sporter and the BLR are the only ones we really wanted.
MArk the marlin model 39a mountie off the bucket list and make room for something else.
