My Primos Ol' Betsy slate call finally came through for me this past Saturday on the last day of the season and what may be the last hunt I'll ever get on this track of land. It may be the biggest bird I've ever shot. He had a 10" beard and weighed in at 20 lbs using my Zebco De-Liar scales which have always been notoriously inaccurate. I'd been talking to him for over an hour starting at first light and then he shut up. I waited for a while and was just about ready to move when I saw that blue head down along the bank of the creek at about 35-40 yds. I figured he wasn't going to get any closer and that I had better shoot before he sees me and disappears and, like Paul Harvey said, you know the rest of the story. ;D

Is that about the right weight for a bird that old in your area? By the spurs I would guess thas no spring chicken there. That's good calling to get an old bird like that in.

Moons I am not sure about the weight. To me he felt heavier than the 20 lbs shown on that stupid De-Liar which I have always thought weighed light anyway. However it was the only thing I could use since my wife (for obvious reasons) wouldn't let me use her kitchen scales. I know the damn thing felt like it weighed 200 lbs after having carried it for nearly a quarter mile going back to my truck. Overall size-wise you usually don't often see them a lot bigger around here. Actual weight aside, I am pretty sure that this was the biggest bird I have taken. I am sold on that Primos Ol' Betsy slate call that Red gave me a while back. I hardly ever use my other calls any more.

Red gave me the Ol' Yeller slate call and it works excellent too..... Maybe Red needs to use the same calls as he sends people and HIS luck would improve

dovehunter that's a nice bird there and the spurs don't look too bad either. i like a slate call, i can yelp and do a kee kee run on a mouth call but that's it. cutting and purring is just not in the picture for me and mouth calls but with a slate you can purr as soft as you want or crank it up, cluck like a mad man, i like em. i also like a good box call to reach way out there then go to a slate for up close and personal.

Heck here in Madison county Indiana all you need is a bag of bread a couple of snowbound kids and a snow shovel.
I have the video to prove it.
