...a brand new truck that's been sitting on the dealer's lot since Sept 2009?
That's 7 months of old fuel being in the system. It's got the 3 year warrenty, but why ask for trouble.
Thoughts?

It's still brand new. And how long did a new vehicle sit in a lot outside the plant before it got to the dealers lot? Unless you have it custom made with your specific options on it and know the date it leaves the factory, your not going to have any idea when it rolls off the production line. (note: we used to do that in the 70's, but I don't hear of anyone doing it now)
That's way too much sweat over things you have no control over. If you like it,want it and can afford it, pull the trigger
Since 1974, I have never bought a new vehicle. Yes I could be buying someone elses headache, but so far I have had good luck buying used. It's like anything else. You pay your money and take your chances.

My dad and his dad always had the employee pricing discount (which I get too) so we've bought new for the last 60 years or better...whenever the old St. Louis plant opened.
I should say the manufacture date was September 22nd. It probably sat in a parking lot in Dearborn for a little while and then was shipped here.
I know they don't add any stabilizer at the factory nor does the dealer. Talking to dad about this, he thought there could be problems throughout the fuel line, filter, etc. His opinion was pass because there are other trucks out there. My opinion was I have the 3 year warrenty and no there is not any other trucks out there within 2000 dollars of this one.
I'll drive it in a day or so and see how it runs.

Interesting question. I wonder what the typical time is between when a new vehicle leaves the factory floor and when it's sold to the end user. I know many are made to order, but many aren't, too. My guess- and it's purely a guess- is that 9 months between assembly and final sale isn't completely unusual. I do know that gasoline today is far less prone to produce the sludge and varnish that gasoline did 50 years ago. Old gasoline gumming things up is pretty rare these days. If it's the vehicle you want and the price is right, I wouldn't let the assembly date bother me- I'd buy it.

I wouldn't think twice about it. Fuel systems are closed and I can't imagine a problem in those few months. My lawnmowers sit 6 months every winter with never a problem, and I've never used Stabil.

Yeah... I would not worry about it a bit. If you WANT to you can run some Sea-Foam fuel additive thru it.
It'd be fine dude.

I think I'm going to the dealer on Monday and ordering one exactly how I want it.
They say the lead time is only 6-8 weeks.

My thoughts exactly. I do however use Stabil in my generator since, other than when we loose our current, it only gets run for about 15-20 minutes once a year.

Who's got two thumbs and just spent 20k? This guy ;D I ordered one. I pulled a fast one on my trade in, so God will probably punish me later. Traditionally they screw you when you use an employee discount. I went to the one ford dealer and told him that Chevy offered me a pretty good deal. He said he'd do $1500 so I said I'll think about it. That was actually a lot more than I thought they would do. I then went to another dealer and told them that I just got an offer for 1500 from another Ford dealer but if they would do $2000 I would order the new one right now. And I did ;D So trade in and the deer wreck insurance turned into a total of $5500 for that thing. A 31k truck for 20k I DID GOOD ;D BTW, to make a full circle, I drove that one that had been sitting on the lot for so long. From the brief test drive, it did sound perfectly fine.
