This guy is no gunsmith or woodworker but tru oil and a little rubbing and it looked great. It also pointed and held well. I like thumbholes for the ease of use and nice feel while holding.
P.S. he also had a boyds stock on a 10-22 but it was a laminate thumbhole that looked space age. I think it looked like the 10-22 race gun they made.

No thanks
I think the Model 60 is just perfect as is - a super light carbine

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I like thumbhole stocks. I almost bought the laminated thumbhole H&R Ultra varmint rifle in .223 but opted instead for the NEF Handi-Rifle with the conventional pistol grip stock. I don't regret this at all but still think though that I might like to try a thumbhole at some point in the future.

Well, you can't make a silk purse from a Sows ear. Best you can hope for is pig skin.

At 54 plus shipping it does cost 1/2 of a used marlin 60. when finished the stock looked like a kimber 84 with the grain and cross marks from the wood. I know every piece of wood is different but this guy got a deal. he paid over 60 for his.
Pig skin or not it looked nicer than my model 39a. Hey marlin blue is not deep and the new mar shield finish looks like plastic stocks but I remember someone complaining about not model 60 mods being available. Here is one and they must be selling like hotcakes as there are only a few left and when i first looked at them there were 137 available.
Boyds does a good job on most of their stocks.

I remember someone complaining about not model 60 mods being available. I just wish the trigger was either better out of the box or easily adjustable. There's a way to adjust it but it's pretty ballsy to do yourself and it's not worth a gunsmith doing it.
