Well I WANT it !!!! A frind stopped over the other day with his new Sako in RIMFIRE. This is a Sako bolt gun in 22lr 22 mag 17 hmr and 17 m2. All 4 interchangable barrels in one case with the trimmings. He has a Leupold 2-7 scope mounted on it now after considerable persuasion and a liberal application of Franklins. The barrels swap out with a special wrench and they all shoot super. We had to shoot at 25 yards but every barrel cut one hole groups. The only real inconvielnce was that for serious work you would have to resight for each caliber. Wow is this a nice outfit.

I think you need a scope mounted on the barrel to pull off this trick and keep them all hitting the same POI when switching barrels. The nut and wrench is the same story with lockup from removal to replacement. I like the idea of all 4 rim fires in one. One of my favorite things is multi use firearms. I still have my doubts on my need for the 17 HMR already having a 22 mag. I like the 17 mkII idea better. I HMR is have fired in the past were just to hot for my liking on small game if you want to see it after the bullet hits. Red mist is cool and all but wow.
One of my short list guns would be the marlin papoose with wood stock. I am going with a custom made scout mount on the barrel instead of the receiver because then it would be POI after a barrel removal. 2 power should be plenty to this gun as a truck/survival rifle. Might just be my first Class III item with a threaded barrel and a can also. Just looks so James Bond.
Te contender has the barrel mounted scope so it is not a problem. It locks up the same every time every barrel.

Had the 22mag v-max of been on the market at the time, I would not have bought my 17hmr. Of course the regular sporter barrel 22mag marlins are $150 at Walmart...but I don't have the need for both. I've seen what the hmr does on squirrels and to say the least it's impressive if you like carnage and destruction ;D I'm not sure if the hm2 would make that big of a difference or not. It might rip them in half when you go to skinning them too. In which case I'd rather have the hmr (of the two) because the hm2's long term existance is still questionable. As far as the Sako is concerned, I can buy 10 Marlin rifles and 10 Rifle Basix triggers for the same money

The scope mounts on the reciever, naturaly a $400 Leupold. The barrels tighten to the action a lot like an old Remington #4 but with an allen head and a little v block. Taking the barrel off and putting it back the poi doesn't change so far, but you would need to resight for say Mag or HMR. Basickly this is a rich mans toy rather than a working gun but sure is fun to play with.

I had a marlin papoose but the barrel you tightened with a little mini barrel nut wrench. Once you got it tight it was accurate leave it a little loose or rough handle around the nut and after 3 shots it would begin to open up groups. I alway loved the idea of that gun but sold it because I had a contender with a 16 inch 22 rifle barrel.
