Has anyone seen these new rimfire "black guns"? Smith and Wesson makes the MP15-22 and Ruger has one called the SR22.. If you've seen them, what do you think?
I think they'd make a good, light squirrel gun with the right kind of optics.

I shot a mp15-22. It was ok. Don't think i would take one in the tree rat woods over a 10-22. I just shot it offhand not from a bench as it was cold. More expensive than i though t would be. It never jammed in the 3 clips i shot.
Been mad a Smith and wesson since the whole mess they got into a while back. Caving into the anti-gun lobby to save themselves from lawsuits then when nobody else joined reversing course. Just about as bad a glock and the whole LE thing they have going.

Jmarriott, Smith and Wesson has changed ownership since then. The fools who made that decision are long gone.

There were many companies who were suppost to join up with Smith but they pulled out and threw Smith under the bus. They didn't do it out of principle, they did out of sneakyness.

Now they got themselves into another mess at the shot show in vegas dealing with kickbacks and such to african secret police. Just like Glock only these guys got caught and made the news big time.

I looked at both of them and while they are different and would probably do the job. I can think of no reason to abandon my favorite Squirrel Rifle, the Ruger 10-22.

Hey bubba..... My coon hunter friend came over late last night. He had one of these little setups using an older Ruger auto pistol. www.aresdefensesales.com/index_files/Page2121.htmHe said his eyes are not as good and the handgun was missing the good shots on coons and one of the dogs got a bit torn up. He turned it into a rifle that packs about as easy as the pistol. I did not get to shot it but he said it was as accurate as his ruger 10-22. If you look there are two types and standard and a tactical. He got the tactical a for a change I think I found a tactical with a hunting use. He put a 4 power scope on it and the flashlight was very bright and small. I pointed it at the brush pile in the garden 35 yards out and I could see in the scope real well. His does not have the hammer handle on the front stock but has the rail. Most people can pick up a ruger mark II auto pistol of 22-45 fairly cheap even cheaper if you have one. No the bad new. It was 359 plus shipping for the unit. Once again to salty for my taste.

Heck you can get a fairly decent bolt-action .22 for that kind of money and it wouldn't look like a prop off the AVATAR set.

359 plus a used mark II or auto pistol/22-45 make it way to expensive I will admit that.
He had 13 big coons in the pickup and claims he has harvested close to 500 of them this season. Even in the depressed fur market that will pay for the unit. His bitch walker won two local hunts this year and he has offers for 14 pups at 300 each.
he is a ak type of guy as far as guns go.

this one belong to him also. A 10mm carbine. it does shoot 10 rings out at 50 yards. It is the same type setup but I don't think it is the same manufacturer.

If you have the money to screw around with convesions like that, you have enough money to buy the real thing

I have never seen a 10mm carbine before this one. I don't want to get into thread drift so maybe I should not have brought it up.
Yeah he has the money. The ford f-350 dually truck he drives for coon hunting and to pull his trailer has a v-10 motor. it has a neat little electric gizno that tells you how many miles you need to go till you hit a gas station. It is not real far as his average MPG according to the electronics was 11.9 MPG and it prefers hi test gas. yeah he's a rich boy.
