This was Sunday but things have been busy for me. In typical "red" fashion, I decided to go rabbit hunting. I got off to a bit of a late start and got up there at 1:00. I get out, see a new sign regarding quail hunting, go over to read it, and then I find out the new rule --- you can't hunt at all when there's a managed deer hunt going on. And of course there was an archery hunt going on. Ok, well if I hurry I can make it over to the next closest conservation area another 30 minutes away. So I did that... Now this place is known for deer hunting, not rabbit. There's not a lot of fields, it's all fesque, and there's tons of pressure. So I drive around the place looking for little hidden fields that people overlook. I settle on the highline cut that parallels the gravel road 30 yards. No one's going to hunt that, you have to hide every time a car comes by So I got one there but decided this isn't going to work. On to the next spot. I slam on the brake and Bingo, there's a little 3 acre field hidden in the woods. I get out and really hit the jackpot. Within an hour I jumped 8 more rabbits. The problem is the thicket was so thick 10 feet was all you could see. The rabbits never been hunted before and they just took about 6 jumps and stopped. The only problem is you couldn't see them. So here I am just blasting away trying blow through brush and hit what I think is a rabbit. So out of the 8, I got 4 more...well...only 2 went in the vest. So 5 rabbits down, about 2 full rabbits worth is all I got out of it. But a good time nonetheless

I don't believe I have seen 8 rabbits in the last 8 years. Around here the durn things have all but become extinct except in subdivisions where you can't shoot them anyway. Be glad you have some rabbits.

I was gone yesterday and came home to what looks as a dog? chaseing a rabbit or rabbits all around my yard by the snow tracks? I have't looked close yet. You can find 8 rabbits out side my house most any morning or evening.
