I have 3 of them ... my deer shotgun with the fully rifled barrel, my first duck gun and a 20 ga that my wife uses rabbit hunting.

Everyone of us in my family has at least one 870. I wonder how many shotguns "you know who" has made ? Not 10 million

I had one... and couldn't hit a DAMNED thing with it. I went like 3-64 on doves with it. I sold it to Squealy as a turkey gun. (It was an 870 Super-Duper-EarSchplitting-ze-louden-boomer) 3 1/2" gun.
He likes it.
I bought a Benelli and am A LOT happier.

As soon as I saw Jabba's name as the last poster to this thread I knew we were going to hear about the awe of the Nova. I understand Ben likes rattles. Give him the Nova to play with b/c it makes the loudest rattle noise of anything I know of ;D

At least I know I won't break the Mossy while using it as a boat paddle. ;D

I own TWO 870's, a wingmaster and a super mag, I've NEVER EVER had a problem with either gun. PERIOD. The wingmaster, which is my slug gun, has probley killed 60 deer or more in it's life time and never a problem. The super mag (Jabba's orginal gun) is a turkey killing machine......

I have mossy's too. Boat paddle or not.
When I go on a bad streak on birds (Usually using an Ithaca mod 37 in either 16 or 12) I go back to my old Mossy 500, and remind myself that I really CAN shoot.
I like the Nove, but I don't think I ever proclaimed its awsomeness. It's a little rattley, but not so much that I even notice it. How many have you petted Red?

I am not going to knock anyones choice for a shotgun.
If I was a lefty the Ithica or BPS with bottom eject would be my choice. I enjoy shooting dad's auto 5. even the old marlin bolt 12 has it's place.
On shotguns the double barrels just never made me say WOW i have to have it. Why carry an extra barrel around unless both can go off at once.
Other than my cheap little 410 camper mossy the only one I handled was a 685 (I think) pump. To heavy and it rattled lots. I don't consider the express a 870 if it's not a wingmaster then it is not a 870. It is just a pump shotgun.

Personally, If I had to choose between the 870 and a model 12, I'd choose the 870 any time. Had two model 12s and both had feeding/ejecting problems.
I still love my Mossbergs though.

I must be the only hunter in America that doesn't own an 870. Never have. I don't use pump shotguns much. Actually, I don't do much bird hunting any more. For most bird hunting, I prefer the O/U. I do tote a Mossy 500 turkey gun through the woods in the spring- that's the only time I use a pump. My reason for choosing the Mossy was primarily because the safety is on the tang, where I'm used to. I have no complaints with the Mossy- it's been dead reliable for me, with no problems at all.
