Agreed to buy an antique last night for the princely sum of $100. I'm not sure if it's an 80 or 81 Honda CX500. 500CC Watercooled Shaft drive. 50HP and will cruise at 70-80. Though I doubt I'll see 80? I know what your thinking $100?? But a Friend has had this bike and commuted to work on it for 20 yrs+ and he maintained it very well. Till He retired and became a snowbird. 5 months Arizona and the rest here. It will need the usual stuff. Rebuild brakes, front caliper sized due to sitting, Clean carbs, Change all fluids and a new battery. Maybe new tires? Should have it running good for less than $400 total by next spring. Not exactly a hunting vehicle, but it does have a rack I could probably sling a deer over? ;D I know for a fact I can pack a flyrod anf a few flies with it and will. This is not it but very simular.

I had a 1981 GL 500, same drivetrain. I wish I would never have sold that bike. Comfortable, smooth and all the power you could ever need, even for 2 up riding. It would run 80 mph all day long and never break a sweat. And it would run up to over 100 before it hit the redline, if you wanted to. But, I was young and after a couple years I just had to have a CB900C. That liquid cooled 500 cc powerplant will go 100K, easily. Nice buy...

Hey, if it's got a frame, 2 wheels and an engine block, you got a steal, Jim.

Maybe I can meet you next spring w/ my 1976 KZ900 LTD I got from Bounce and we can do a little flyfishing................ DD in the back of my mind, I had been planning a ride out your way for coffee and a vist with you guys once I had confidence in it's reliability. So Yeah we should try to set something up next year. I've also been planning a Retro-Ride Two lane run to Visit my Brother in Western Colorado. But That may be a year off? Yes I could take 80,76 & 70 within 30 miles of his house, but where's the fun in that? By Spring I will have 7 weeks of vacation banked up, and will need some play time. I can only roll over 4 weeks per year. I found a support group dedicated to the CX/GL Honda's for tech support with a member just 38 miles from me. choppercharles.com/cs/forums/That KZ900 in it's day was the baddest boy on the street. I grew up in a town where the Kawasaki Dealer had the whole town to himself. Tons of 900 &1000's in the area. Here's a forum that might help you with any technical questions. kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=116Yes I have been looking at a lot of older stuff, the new Ricky Racer Style bikes do nothing for me. Scott That GL is one sweet ride, I wanted one bad! But when they came out, the farm economy was in the dumpster and I never knew how many months a year I would be working. So never bought one. Since I will see my 60th birthday in a couple months, I thought it was time to start reverting back to my childhood ;D

Nice. Remember while riding, half the people can't see you and the other half want to kill you.... BTW my first ride was an '81 CB900C I've upgraded to a '04 Shadow Sabre...
