So my brother called me to say he almost killed himself this evening. He was apparently climbing a tree and ran into a sapling/branch in the way. Not having a saw, he attempted to cut it with his Buck folder (4 or 5 " deer knife many of you might have). I guess he stuck it in the branch, twisted, and the damn blade snapped at the thumbnail groove and that 3-sided blade went wizzing about a foot past his head !!!

I'm not suprized it's a cutting tool not a pry bar. To get a knife you can use as a pry bar he's going to have to spend the price of about 6 Buck knives for a non folding survival knife.

I broke a buck using it as a make shift screwdriver on a motor boat.

I got to watch a buck get broke cutting throough a nail. The guy was in my sho bragging on his buck and went over to the anvil to demonstrate how tough a buck really was.... Well you CAN cut a nail with a buck same as you can cut a bolt with a cold chisel, you tap it through. Instead this guy puts a big old nail on the anvil, picks up a 2 1/2 pound cross peen and centers on the back of the knife blade, rares back and WHAM he gives the blade a good belt. Boy oh boy there were pieces everywhere! He looks at the blade and looks at me and shrugs, "Oh well they have a lifetime guarentee". I just looked at him and siad that one looks pretty dead to me.

Hard steel on hard steel. the smaller blade is going to give. Nothing against a buck 101 the standard folder knife in history most likely. I have never owned one.

I would wager that any knife subjected to such ridiculous treatment would react in the same way. Now if that guy had placed his head between the nail and the ballpeen hammer I would bet the nail would have broken.

I have broken several Buck knife blades... all in the pelvic bones of deer. Usually big ones. Buck had always replaced them for me.
I have a pelvic bone SAW now. WAY better.

Yeah, never use a knife for the pelvic bone. I have a hatchet for that. I don't even like using it for splitting up the ribcage.
Well my brother got his knife back with a brand new blade, all the brass polished brightly, and the wood refinished like new. It's the same knife as he put a Sharpie mark on the locking mechanism.

I've been using my 2M's buildt knife for over twenty years now. i use it to go though both the pubic and ribcages. Oh yea and my left trigger finger once when I slipped going though a ribcage. But Doc reattached everything and it works pretty good and you can't hardly see the scar right though the second knuckle up!!!!!!\ After that I was a lot more careful! I lost alot of blood walking 1/2 back to a vehicle and driving myself fifteen miles to a hospital. The poor ER nurse almost fainted when I walked in with blood everywhere. At any rate Damn good knife 2M's buildt!!!!
