Here is my kayak with the gun mount and the camo cover. It works, just like the old snak boats yo can paddle through the swamp and stalk ducks. If you prefer pull the camo over, back into the reeds and throw out a few decoys. The goose in the front actually serves to cover and hold the shotgun muzzle so you don't splash any water into the gun. When you set up the decoys the goose just pokes out of the reeds and is the confidence decoy. Attachments:

That is neat ... we can't do that here .. if we're hunting from a boat the boat has to be anchored for and aft... and it has to be within 2' of the shore line. I guess they just don't want us running up and down rivers or around the marshes shooting ducks under power.

And is is the east coast sneak boat that I admired the most. Sometimes sitting waitning for the ducks to come to you isn't as mcuh fun as trying to sneak up on them, like fall turkey hunting as compared to spring.

I believe a sneak boat or rigg like two Moons is legal in Iowa. What is not is hunting from a power boat to pursue game. In fact it is not legal to shoot any game in this state from a powered vehicle, with the notable exception of a handicapped hunter with specific permit who can but the vehicle has to be shut down before shooting. This seems reasonable to me. But Missouri Deer Hunters can carry a loaded gun in a vehicle and many Missouri hunters get ticketed along the boarder where they cross the state border to get to different hunting areas.

That it is legal here in Indiana. I also see no regulation in Indiana that makes it illegal for deer hunting. I know I can hunt tree rats with a canoe as long as it is not powered by a motor including a trolling motor.
That is a great idea for ducks without a dog also. I never thought of it but my mind is running all the gears now I already found the covering and my paddle. Those little boats can move also quickly on the water and are silent as well.
I take it you tie off your shotgun to the boat so you don't drop that double in the lake. I have a late season deer hunt at chain of lakes state park this year I was going to wade now I am thinking of floating.

He uses a mossberg paddle. Ba da bing: the old mossburg boat paddle line. Don would have been proud of such a utilitarian use for a fine shotgun. I remember his fondness of the mossburg pump and the 243. Plus using them out of a boat on a makeshift float trip down the white river. I miss him at the turkey shoot's also.

Somewhere up in the barn hay-mow my dad had a punt gun. I think it was a 2 pounder. (1/2 pound of powder and 2 pounds of shot) but I'm not sure. It's been 30 years since I saw it. It was here when dad bought the farm back in 68. I guess I'll have to get one of the kids to go upstairs in the barn and get it down. Shoot, I don't even know if it's still up there.
Dad donated a bunch of stuff to our Agricultural Museum 15 or 20 years ago and that may have gone the way of the old pump organ and farm impliments he gave them.

Hey I bought my Daughter a Mossberg for her shotgun, cut the stock down and fitted a recoil pad and now her kid is getting ready to shoot it. If they made them from steel they would be Remington M31's and they would last forever and we wouldn't even need 870's. And as to boarding Pirates Greg Roberts had a Mossberg stainless 590 for just that purpose and carried it on his sail boat every time he sailed the keys.
